NW Multihull Meeting, Sunday, June 2 in Port Townsend for the R2AK Start

The Northwest Multihull Association will have our monthly meeting in Port Townsend on Sunday evening, June 2, 2019
Why? Turns out that the Race to Alaska "Ruckus" followed by the race start the next day is on the eve of the 1st Tuesday of the month. So our meeting in Port Townsend takes advantage of this, and it gives our west of the Sound members a chance to attend conveniently.

On Sunday the R2AK “Race Ruckus” begins at noon and continues all afternoon and evening. R2AK boats will be in Point Hudson marina and in Pope Marine Park next to the Northwest Maritime Center. It is great fun to stroll amongst, and see, the variety of boats and talk to the competitors as they assemble and do last minute tweaks to their entries. So come early in the day.

Also the SEVENTY48 finish deadline is 7pm so some of them will be around to visit with. AND the Classic Mariner Regatta is finishing that day so some really cool old wood boats will be at Point Hudson marina! Aside from the great old town of Pt Townsend & its shops there are boats for everyone!

So, Sunday at 5pm we will transition away from the Ruckus to the other end of town, 1 mile south, to walk the docks at Boat Haven marina (where there probably will be more R2AK boats). Then at 6-8pm we will enjoy dinner and meeting at the Port Townsend Yacht Club on the very NE corner of the smaller Boat Haven yacht basin. NWMA will provide dinner and beverages, so please RSVP via PM to me here. More info will be posted here approx 2 weeks before the meeting.

If you are into getting up early, (we possibly have a camping opportunity if you send an RSVP to learn the secret handshake), stay overnight and wake at 4:00 am Monday to stagger out to the beach for the always impressive 5 am R2AK start. Its a carnival atmosphere with classical inspirational music on an impressive sound system. Usually there's free oatmeal with great berries and a hundred or two crazy fans cheering on the teams that start just off the pier. Plus you still have time to ferry back to Seattle for work!

We hope to see you in the marvelous multi maritime mecca of Port Townsend! Drop ins and visitors to our meetings are always welcome but since we are catering dinner an RSVP is nice, even on the day of, and we might, or might not, have a cup out for non member dinner donations.
