It just ticked all the boxes for me , big enough for two and not too big for me to handle , it also has somewhat of a reputation as a good performer ( interestingly two other prospective buyers / viewers had rejected it in the grounds that it was " too sporty ". !! Suits me ) , twin inboard diesel with shaft drive , and TBH I couldn't find anything else in the price bracket ( which s all that could practically afford ) other poss for me would be pajot 38 / Fidji etc , but they are just a little over my budget and anyway I really like this boat , I am not really a Lagoon / leopard / new Outremer ( tho would take an older 40 light if I could afford one !! ) type of person even if I could afford them,, time will tell if I am happy but at moment quite pleased and looking forward to our delivery / collection trip across the Notth Sea back to Scotland .

Re: New owner

Congrats! Yeah, we originally wanted an Outremer 40/43, but we were a year too late. When Gerard Danson died, the prices almost doubled on them! Ended up with a better boat anyway. I watched that boat for sale for a long time. Surprised it didn't sell sooner, bet you for a great deal. Hope you have lots of fun with it!

Not if you have a WiFi connection to download. No connection needed to use,

Re: New owner

So the big day is rapidly approaching , one week to go , working throo the things I think I will need , apart from the boat itself which is turn key , there are some essentials , got the iPad and will download the Navionics when I get home in a few days , ordered two new auto life jackets, got two complete sets of heavy weather sailing suits and wet suits ( one each ) ( already have a few spare medium weather jackets etc ,) , new quilt etc , looking at nxt weeks forecast and tho Monday dont look too good for leaving , light head wind , there is s massive high approaching from the Atlantic which should be sitting over us nxt week , so maybe not lot wind but it will be warm ..

Re: New owner

To be honest - the first weekend it was blowing 7-8 on the Saturday (bought the boat Friday evening) , and we chickened out. Not the best weather to learn a new boat in a crowded marina. Sunday we got out, but the wife was somewhat seasick - she is suseptable and we had forgotten her medication. Mixed with lumpy seas after Saturday's winds didn't go down too well.

Last weekend we managed to get the sails up, but there wasn't enough air to move the ensign let alone fill the sails.

Under motor, I found her surprisingly quick. 2 little 18hp easily managing north of 7 knots.
Steering is really light and responsive, and she will turn in far quicker than I was expecting.
Handling in the marina under twin engines was a doddle, although the throttles below your knee are a pain (may have to fix that)

Hopefully this weekend we can get a sensible breeze.

Re: New owner

Great , you seem to be enjoying it , I really liked that boat and the 2 x 18 horse engines I can imagine will be very useful , I think mine are just 12 s (will know soon ). Now , just as a precaution I guess I should consider some seasickness tabs invade either of us are affected , never having needed before I know nothing about them , what would you recommend ?4

Re: New owner

Cherod... Definitely have some sea sickness tablets on hand. Most people seem to be less susceptible on a cat compared to a mono, but, some people are the other way round.

I used to suffer occasionally on a mono but was never ill on my cat. A friend who had sailed monos for many, many years and never been ill, was sick on my cat the first time it got a little rough.

On to tablets... Of the brands readily available in the UK, my wife found Kwells to be the best followed by Stugeron. Kwells seemed to act faster if you did start to feel il.

Re: New owner

In the UK, generally Sturgeron or Kwells - I think both are available over the counter from Boots ( you need to ask the chemist).

Kwells are hyoscine hydrobromide, are generally cheaper and seem to work well.
Strugeron are cinnarizine which works well, but should be taken 2 hours before the start to be effective and can cause drowsyness - they also tend to be more expensive.
