FINALLY! an honest review. I know the guy that delivered the first boat from St Augustine to Annapolis. He had "no comment"

also, I'm sure that old Prout is well loaded. I guess the questions is in full barge trim for cruising and bridgedeck anti fouled, will the ride be better or will there be too much resistance to get out of the harbor?

Thanks for the quick reply. My apologies for not being more specific in the post. I do have these. I am wondering what price the boats are going out the door for. Are they getting full list, or are people seeing a discount, and if so, what. Was kind of looking for the OTD (out the door) price. Hence the question on other forums (not to disparage this one)

BTW, I am looking at this for coastal cruising in the Northeast area, MD to ME. At $280 it seems high, at $230 I am thinking not so bad. But I don't know what you can get for $230.

You can get a nice Mahe 36 for less. Bigger, faster boat

How old will that Mahe be? I do like the Mahe, I really like the lagoon 380, I can find some used lagoons for 280-300. Is this the newer mahe you are talking about? What are they going for vs. age?

Also, one reason i like the gemini's are the 14' beam. I don't like them from a cat point of view, but considering I am in MA, and would probably be in your area up to ME, I can get berths. The number of real cats (FP, Lagoon, Seawind, leapord, etc. )up here in MA on the north shore you can count on a single hand. You can't find any slips bigger than standard, and mooring space is so tight that you get the last one out (don't know if you have ever been in Marblehead harbor, but I had a 35' mono that once you start going in the channel, you don't know if you can turn around. Seriously.) So the Gemini cats are attractive for what I am looking at. I really hate to purchase new in this market, a 2-5 year old is what I want, but I don't like the older Geminis. Hence my question on discount off of list price. Thanks for listening.

The used Mahe 36's start in the $169,500 usd range and move up depending on age and if chartered.

The Mahe 36 beam is 19' 6" which fits in most small travel lifts.
A Lagoon 380 beam is 21' 5" and has to go in a larger travel lift

Cats turn on a dime, so you can get in tight spaces or back into a slip with no worries

The 14' beam is the biggest compromise. If they made it 17 or 18 it could be a higher clearance, MUCH better boat.

you really have to come to terms with a wide boat if you want a decent multihull.

Good luck, I would keep a monohull based on your area of cruising and move to a multi if you decide to go long term cruising.

You must remember though that although Hunter has the build rights to the Gemini they have changed the boat to such an extent that it is no longer a Gemini at all. It may have the name "Gemini" but it is not a Gemini.

Gemini's have a centerboard in each hull - The Legacy has fixed keels.

Gemini's have a single drive in the center of rear bridge deck that is steerable - The Legacy has sail drives.

It weighs more too and weight was always a real problem with Gems as folks wanted a dingy on davits, an AC unit, more battery capacity etc.

They should really just start another group on Yahoo or elsewhere IMO.
