Re: New Excess Catamaran Brand

FYI: The german dealer "enjoy yachting" has written a little bit more about this new brand on his page (in german):

Re: New Excess Catamaran Brand

The website refuses to show the gallery without changing my default browser settings. This is bloody wrong as my settings are what is recommended by Mozilla as default safe setting.

Unsafe cookies to see some jpeg images? Really, Bene? ;-))))

I will see the images anyway by using plane google images search ...

Re: New Excess Catamaran Brand

I am curious if anyone objected (or still does) when "Privilege" brand was created? Seems to be even more obnoxious name than Excess? Interesting how after awhile actual meaning of the word seems to fade away.

https://www.multihulls-world.com/vid...s-catamarans-3

And at the opening of the Cannes Yachting Festival, the world number 1 in boat production - the Bénéteau group - has confirmed the arrival of a new player. Excess Catamarans is going to be complementary to Lagoon (which belongs to the Bénéteau group and is already leader in the global catamaran market) with a positioning that is clearly more focused on performance under sail. The first drawings suggest a modern boat equipped with two helm stations, aft on each hull. A boat for enjoyable sailing, which will remain pleasant to live on, as much as at anchor as underway on a long passage.

We’re going to have to wait for the Düsseldorf show to have more information, but we can already tell you that the pool of architects and designers working on the early stages of the newcomer is particularly recognized both in the world of ocean racing and cruising catamarans...

Hull number 1 in the series will be officially presented at the autumn shows in 2019.

Was about to say the exact same thing.
I am pretty sure that the reason for VW to introduce a luxury car into their line up was to improve the perception of the brand more than the number of cars sold of that particular model.
Marketing is tricky.
Don’t forget this thread itself is part of the marketing of this new catamaran brand.

I observe that in reality, the name and the buzz for the marque is working.

Great point; we’ll all take a close look at it when it appears, even if only due to this thread!

Re: New Excess Catamaran Brand

This is an awesome move on the part of Group Beneteau. They want to cover off on a more performance segment for growth, which includes me. I want twin helms with the wheels right over the rudders and could lose some interior space, especially in the hulls. I don't care if the hulls are more narrow to get the performance because I just don't spend much time down there. I don't need a fat owner's hull.

I also am nervous about these smaller boat builders trying to fill this niche because they can go out of business overnight.

I noticed that HH is going down market with a new line to leverage their performance and quality - but at a lower price point (still not cheap). Both developments are super encouraging for those who don't want to be limited to Outremer. More options.

The name and web site? I'm good. I've always believed in "everything in moderation" - which by definition includes moderation. Screw moderation. Life is short. You can only discover the sweet spot by going past it and that is simply more fun.

Well, there is Catana too, so not only Outremar.

I really hope the quality exceeds the Lagoon. The newer Lagoons feels plastic and just badly made.

If you have more money to spend, just go buy a gunboat. Otherwise, Lagoon is probably the best you can buy today.
