Re: New cat made in china

James Wharrams boats are designed to "move around a little", also the bulkhead spans on a wharram are much much much less than those on a ******. Big wide hulls with bogged in bulkheads on a production cat is just not on. I have seen bulkheads come away on *******. Again - just saying judge the quality not the address.

Re: New cat made in china

In understand that some boat builders have their production outsourced in China (and some of these boats gave good reputatio). I don't think anybody is crazy enough to engage in a boat production business (which require a decent upfront investment) with a poor quality product, which is different that producing cheap plastic stuff for Christmas.

Having said that, I agree with the comments on spare parts, standards and overall manufacturer's support but it is not uncommon for all new entrants on any market.

I am wondering if any product such as iPad can be manufactured equally efficient in any of the southern European countries

Hard to beat that buck an hour wage in China however Apple is bringing the Mac production back to the US. I guess the price of these can justify it. We can assume that Apple has a heavy hand monitoring production of the products in China or elsewhere. This boat is a different beast and there are significant issues and risk for the buyers. Someone here should buy one and let us know how it works out.

Most of our most important safety devices, anchors, are made in China.

We're having a cat built in Taiwan (about the same dang thing as China). The builder contracted with the same boat yard that has been building Tayana mono hulls for 40 years. At least know how to build quality boats at that yard. That fact helped relieve some of the risk in our minds. Before we signed the contract I called the boat yard and asked for the general manager. As soon as I spoke English to them they spoke it back to me. The manager took my call and we had a nice chat. Those little things help when taking a risk like this!

Factor most builders do bog in bulkheads then glass tape the cove this is standard procedure although some thicken the hull area where the bulkhead sits ie Schionning. What is wrong with this method Gougeon's perfected it?

Cheers

Re: New cat made in china

I'm with most of you, if i was to get something from China, I would want it from a great builder with extra supervision.. I've seen a few on yachtworld that the owner custom built something and he was on sight on the whole time and the yacht look GREAT. For production, I would go as far as Taiwan, to get my boat as they have been building boats for a while and produce some decent stuff..

As for European yachts, I've seen tons of crap coming out of there as well.. So I agree that Asia isn't the only people making crap stuff in bulk...

Nothing. But a number of boats I have seen recently from a European manufacturer have had bog coved in, but no tape and resin over the coving. Even worse I have seen some bulkheads tabbed in in. i.e. Bog every 25 Cms or so.

LOL

BryGuy: Taiwan is not the same as China. You can cruise around Taiwan.
