Re: New Alpha 42 to be Built in the US

How are these boats going to stack up price wise against the euro priced french cats now they are near 20% cheaper?

Not optimistic for Gregor here - good boat but not 20% better.

I was at the Miami show last month and no Alpha?! Disappointing and makes me wonder why, and not in a positive way.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be Built in the US

I will be as ambiguous as is possible. "somebody who may have a vested interest in Alpha Yachts could be a representative of a large production catamaran company who may have indicated that if said person is seen to be promoting/selling Alpha's then that may jeopardise their contract with said large production catamaran company".

I dunno WB. Tarjan is a distributer of FP, Outremer, Tomcat, Sunreef, Neel and Dragonfly. He could be displaying lots of different boats at the shows.
He already has a deposit on hull #7 so maybe he doesn't need to show it.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be Built in the US

WB, what prescient oracle whispered that in your ear? Maybe we should start referring to the Alpha as Marc Anasis' boat even tho' the original basic design is Tarjan's.

Anybody who's ever built anything complicated knows that there are always N iterations on the original plans. As Drew pointed out, there have been some major modifications to the Alpha design; some required new molds. Those changes - and weather - have slowed the process but the next two Alphas should be in the water in early April and late June/early July.

The falling value of the Euro is certainly going to make the French cats look more affordable. They won't seem great value if the build quality is compared to that of the really really solid Alpha. And, you still gotta get the French boats to the US and pay that nice import duty if you want to sail home waters at all.

The next Alpha will be available for inspection in Patchogue in April and in The Chesapeake once it reaches home port on the West River.

Hey Guy's, read into it what you like but when I was at the Annapolis Boat Show last year Gregor very politely asked me to remove my 'Alpha Yachts' cap while on the FP site due to the sensitive nature of that relationship.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be Built in the US

Wow, WB I didn't think an FP display at a boat show was considered to be part of Metropolitan France. Maybe Tarjan forgot about free speech rights in the US.
I guess we really had better refer to the Alpha as Marc Anasis' cat - just to protect Tarjan from FP, of course.

Marc's cat is definitely worth a second look, given the changes. He'd certainly welcome anybody to the yard to see the guts of the cats in progress.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be Built in the US

Yeah gotta watch those frenchies Cruisingkrol. Being a Kiwi who was on Quay St in Auckland the night they bombed the Rainbow Warrior they have a special entry on my **** list. My Alpha is due to be completed this September. We have been dragging it out a bit due to the Aussie $.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be Built in the US

Well, WB, congrats on being an Alpha Male. (Hmmm, should I check your profile?) My better half is an Aussie. I'd love to hear you two compare S### Lists. My sympathies on the Aussie $; the pundits say there is hope.

Seriously, no boat is perfect, but the build on the Alpha is now pretty darn good. We'll still watch the weather in April and not deliberately launch into storm conditions like couple of new cats did in the last year or so.

Hull number two is available for charter in BVIs through TMM.
As Carol said hull three is launching next month and hull four is launching mid summer. Both hulls three and four will be sailing around NE and mid-Atlantic till late fall. Hull two is staying in BVIs.

If you want to see one and go sailing I would recommend chartering through TMM or contacting Marc/ Gregor. They did public demos last October when they launched hull two and are planning the same for hull three next month.

Best,
Drew
(hull 4)

A thought: if there's an Alpha Male, there must be an Alpha ΦMale. Sorry.

Re: New Alpha 42 to be Built in the US

Well, Alpha Fans, if all goes as planned, our Alpha 42 will be available for viewing and testing in Patchogue between April 20th and 27th. It's going in the water this Friday. Woowee!
