Re: NEW 47? ok, nice, but what's the diff' ??

I'd rather debate the merits of the boat. What anybody wants on their boat is their business and their right. I spent lots if time in the Far East, some for the wrong reasons in far worse weather and conditions than most folks (I hope) will ever know, and yep, it was incredibly hot. But that's not the point; we have enjoyed a/c in the Washington D.C. area with 95 temps and 100% humidity but we often don't use it in the cars because our sinuses go berserk!

We chartered a cat w/o air in the BVI mid July, but got used to the heat, and have agreed that we dont want the expense or weight of a/c and a genny...BUT if a used Open 40 with those installed came along and we could afford it, I'd get it if there was no alternative.

Let's go back to boats!

Exactly !
So you're saying nobody ever has, or ever could have lived on a boat in Singapore without aircon?

Singapore is 85 miles from the equator,...I don't think the Fl Keys are anywhere near that close There is a difference !
...agreed, back to boats

I looked up the temps. At the height of summer both the Keys and Singapore have about the same high temps, though the lows are higher in the Keys. Same humidity.

None of you are really understanding the Need V Want component to 44c's statement.

I've no doubt he's experienced hot and humid before on his boat, FNQ etc, so no need to think he doesn't understand it.

What you don't understand is that some people's wants are other people's needs

Can we please get back to talking about the boat or is this now a thread about air-conditioning? If so I guess I'll unsubscribe

No, that's incorrect. It's still a want.

And hey, that's ok. People are entitled to want what they want and put what they want on their boat. But calling it a need is incorrect.

There's plenty of information on the boat in this thread. If you feel you need to unsubscribe then go for it.

Number of cabins/berths

Some of the newer layouts on the newer boats are pretty impressive.
I've got to ask,...why all this need for 3 and 4 cabins, with subsequent heads, etc??

Are you all planning on charter work??

Hydraulic Platforms & Flybridges

So at least you were accepting of a lesser number of staterooms?

Love the hydraulic platform on the stern as well as the quasi flybridge for island sailing while still having the safer helm position for ocean crossing.
I like that platform as well. included something similar on several sailing/fishing cat concepts I was playing with.

I have always been concerned with those very high off the water booms necessary for flybridge controls, so my flybridge on this design was to be somewhat similar to an older Lock Crowther design.

Re: NEW 47? ok, nice, but what's the diff' ??

I lived on a boat in Singapore for a few years. Out of say 15 live aboards at One15 Marine, Sentosa each one had aircon. Some used the aircon only at night and when it rained and the boat had to be closed up. Aircon also helps keep mildew away. To make living aboard in Singapore a viable option yes you need aircon. Sure the human body can adjust to lots of things but most of us chose not to torture ourselves. Ps the humidity in Singapore is much higher than the keys.

I don't want to derail this thread further I just want to add my first hand experience.
