Neel 47 - First Sea Trial

Greetings! Neel posted pics of the brand new Neel 47s first sea trials on their Facebook page.
The 47 looks to capture the best of the 45 and 51 with it's looks, design and performance. It will also be featured at the La Grande-Motte boat show 24-28 April, 2019.
We're going to the LGM boatshow and hope to coordinate a demo sail. Should be exciting!

(I also posted in the Neel Trimaran Builders section, but no one really looks there).

Yeah, I saw that also, be sure to post pictures and impressions after you go aboard! I'm very curious how the cabins in the Amas are and how the ingress/egress into those rooms are going to be ... And access to and around the systems. And the owner's hull and bathroom. And. And. Crap, the whole boat I think Haha!

Scott,
We're in the same boat (pun intended...). We have a million questions (inside, outside, performance, etc). Will make sure to post what we find and discover when we get to the boat show.

Have a great time! Although we’re looking at cats (new to me since I’ve only had tris) as our last boat, im looking forward to hearing your observations and critique! 😀

And just in case you get one and need a 2nd opinion we’re in Md and boat north of you on the West River...!🤪

Have fun,

Indeed, the boat looks great. I just wish they'd film it in 2-4m seas so we'd get an idea of her behavior in not-so-pleasant conditions.

That would be nice to see how she handles in rougher seas. Although if anything like the 45 or 51, I'm sure she'll do quite well.

Have to agree - don't really see the point of an extra central hull?
Extra weight, cost and wetted surface?

Re: Neel 47 - First Sea Trial

I thought Privileges are routinely faster than Lagoon, FP, Leopard, etc. That series 5 ran the engine a lot and was still in the bottom half. Also, Friendship Starship has a YouTube channel and they are new sailors - their elapsed time is surprising and even more so when seeing its a Lagoon 42.

I have never seen a Privilege routinely faster than any others although I've not been aboard any of the brand new versions.

Trimarans are typically faster than cats (and monohulls) because of their design. They're also more stable than a cat while still having minimal heeling. The Neel 47 is expected to have similar performance results across the board.

Weight (displacement) is negligible when compared to other similar length catamarans (info from www.sailboatdata.com). There's no info on the Neel 47 yet, but here are other multihulls in comparison:

- Neel 51: 14k kg

- Knysna 50: 13.5k kg
- Priviledge 51: 17k kg
- Outremer 49: 10k kg
With regards to cost, the above 4 are all basically $1mil boats new.

I think the Neel line of trimarans built for the cruising community provides a good balance of cost, performance, and comfort.
