Re: Needing advise

We really looked at Tonga but the restrictions by Moorings and Sunsail would prevent us from going from one island group to the other. I am concerned that the islands are so jam packed together that we really wouldn't be doing much sailing. We are looking at islands somewhat more spread apart so we're looking at St. Martin. Any thoughts on that area?

Re: Needing advise

St Martin is fun - clearing in and out of the dutch/french sides to go back and forth is a pain, so its easier to stay on one side or the other for a few days. Antigua is about 100 miles, St Kitts and Nevis are 60-70 and the VIs about 100 also, so its a good central spot if you have a month and don't mind long sail days to get to out and about. You will see proper ocean conditions between the islands mind you. The wind is generally favorable for St Martin to Antigua and St Kitts/Nevis both ways as its mostly north/south. Heading to the BVIs will be fine, but probably up hill on the way back from there, so I wouldn't leave that to the end of the trip if you want to do it.

You'll want to be confident before attempting a 100 miles between islands as the weather and seas can really pick up with squalls etc.

That's not a bad choice for a month of sailing.
