It's not bad luck if the Admiral makes you change the name. See Laws of the Sea chapter 6 section 47 "Name Changes - The rule
of the Admiralty". Bottom line: "the Admiral is always right". Local traditions normally will cover the ceremony minimum requirements. Quantities of strong drink are purchased by the Captain
(that would be you) for those that attend.
You may be able to file the name change as part of your new registration
with appropriate fees
of the old name should be complete before the ceremony and the new name may then be applied after the ceremony provided the drink has not created a situation where you can't see straight. In that event the next day is appropriate.
