Mystery Cat for Sale - Hope it Gets New Sails

Mystery catamaran Kaz II for sale

THE Kaz II - the ghost ship dubbed the Marie Celeste of the Whitsundays - has been offered for sale with 'a future in a possible movie career'.
In one of the great nautical mysteries of modern times, skipper Derek Batten, 56, and brothers Peter and Jim Tunstead, 69 and 63, disappeared without a trace only four hours after setting sail from Airlie Beach in April last year.

The owner of the ill-fated catamaran, widow Jenny Batten, this week listed the boat for sale with a Townsville brokerage for $225,000.

That is creepy as hell. I've read the story, but talk about a bad luck boat.

What was it?, maybe a much modified Eureka 32. Not sure weather Lock would want to own up to it as being one of his .

Wow..... just wow. I had not heard of that story.

The images on the one article that was linked shows someones medication, their license, credit cards, .44 mag rounds still in the box (unfired rounds), and at least one fender out. I'd think it was some kind of pirate/kidnapping attack, especially in light of the fact there were knives on the deck (or beach, that wasn't very clear).

I don't think I'd want to buy that boat.

The inquest into this incident took place last month. The whole thing smacks of an insurance scam, but for the unexplainable. Water tanks which were full when the Kaz II left Airslie were at one-quarter when she was recovered. Engines were supposedly running and food was still laid out when she was boarded by authorities 5 days after departure.

Very odd.

Seems to have sold cheaply.

Last listed at $145K.

At least they were honest about the boat's history.
