Fatty Goodlander likes Cats but says mono is safer for what he does.

If you're going to live on the boat, I'd suggest you work out what your budget will be, go and look at lots of boats in your price range, and decide which you'd rather live on.

And while you are there try to imagine ( if possible ) what it is like to live at 45 deg to the horizontal , it adds a whole other perspective to the term " climbing the walls " !!

Forgive the more impatient, and even curt, replies that you receive. You can do a search of CF and learn a lot. Basically, multis and monos share the same mission statement, but approach it differently. If you're doing this in earnest, you'll quickly be drawn to one or the other camp. Best of luck, and whatever you do, please don't post a follow-up thread about whether or not you should keep firearms aboard .

But feel free to ask about what anchoring setup you should have.

I'm totally in awe of this brilliant "argumentation"

Re: Multihull versus Monohull
Actually I've been all over Google. Watching YouTube Channels SV Delos, Abandon Comfort, Sailing Katara. It seems to be almost a personal preference but was hoping to find some significant reasons why I would do one over the other.
I'm currently leaning towards a Cat. We plan on taking excursions on both mult-hull and mono-hull to see what we prefer.

Re: Multihull versus Monohull
This is excellent, most direct conversation I've seen. Thanks for sharing. One of the things we want to do is live on the boat, sail and dive. So ocean access is a consideration for us.

Read reviews, books, comments from here on CF (taken lightly and realized that they are, for the most part, biased) and collect data, by all means, BUT your statement above will contribute the most valuable insight - esp the opinions of your wife and children.
I've sailed monos, and transatlantic on a 157' tall ship, and now prefer multihulls, but all of that is only important to me. See what your family enjoys the most, determine how far OFF THE SHORELINE and WHEN you will sail, and then make the determination of what you can afford to buy. I've seen folks sail Hobie cats and small monos across big water, but would never do so with my Admiral!
regards,

What people are saying is that this is a topic akin to politics and religion. There is no right or wrong, but lots of divisive opinion. Aside from that, all you are going to get is personal opinion, and the only real way to know what's right for you (and your budget) is to go sail both.
Good luck!

From the video I get that in summary that cats are the safe in areas of more predictable weather but less so in higher latitude long passages.
For where you are and what you plan to do sounds as though a cat would suit you best.

Please forgive my Scottish compatriot, he's obviously spoiling for a fight like most Scots. To compensate for his bad manners I am forced to state that you will never beat the beauty and the thrill of sailing a fine monohull in a stiff breeze.
