Monohulllers, Tell Us What You Like About Multihulls

I and many others on this forum tire of the incessant bickering between two camps - monohullers and multihullers, of this great pastime and passion that we all share. I and many others love boats - and are able to respect the choices that others have made.

I am proposing this thread so that like-minded members of this forum can have the opportunity to express thier respect and appreciation, rather than criticisms of the boats that the other camp have chosen to own and sail. I have started a like thread in the monohull forum so that multihullers can do the same about monohulls. I have no idea where this will take us, but it has to be better than the bickering and often over-stated and unsubstantiated claims that are made by both sides of what is the very same coin.

I have taken the liberty in the monohull thread to enter a few things that I appreciated about monohulls and can only hope that some monohull owner will take up the torch and do the same on this thread.

Down wind, they are a blast. Up wind they suck! I delivered one up from Cabo once and it almost beat me to death. I was young and full of piss & vinigar in those days!
I love the room, of course - great for chasing the pretty girls around deck!
I hate the moorage problem with them.
I have enough trouble maintaining one hull let alone two.
I anchored behind Destruction Island in a blow once and was a nervous wreck.
I've anchored behind the same island many times in a monohull and slept well.
I've never drifted at sea in one but I have a feeling it would be uncomfortable compared to a monohull but my experience in them is little.

Thanks Geoduck - at least your comments about sailing downwind and chasing pretty girls around the larger deck area are positives! Not sure what you mean about anchoring problems, unless it is the increased windage? Frankly, I have found that cats have a huge advantage in rolly anchorages and that you can make up for the windage, as on any boat, with better ground tackle.

The space is great, and the shallow draft, and the flat sailing can be cool at times when you don't want to lean over anymore!!

I like ALL boats as long as they are afloat and not abandoned. Some are pretty radical but sometimes we need to experiment to see what really works.

Boats are like the tools in my shop. Sometimes I'll use a hand drill motor, other times a Bridgeport mill. But I can't justify or afford a sinker, laser cutter or water jet.

I'm sure in most cases it has to do with budget. By degrading the more expensive boats it just tells people where you are in the money world. It's the quality of the boat that I look at when making decisions for myself.
Some may try to go as big as they can for the $$$. But if it lazing around a lake, who cares.

My favorite boat is a submarine, but I don't think I could single hand one that would cross oceans. 

Boatman, while I appreciate the sentiment, I hope that wasn't intended as an invitation! And DOJ, on that boat you wouldn't need a fridge - you can use the empty beer bottles to either bail or send rescue messages!

I like the shallow draft and the wide decks. Their speed off the wind is fun in flat water.

Reduced draft on multi is a big plus. Being able to beach is great fun speed in proper winds and seas yahoo. Short chop really sucks bad enough in a big mono with a fair entry. Easier on a mono to gauge the point of no return. Easier on a multi to want to push that point.
My peterson is a very good older design tank. By design the beating it gets is controllable and forgiving as well as proven.pretty sure I could find a multi that fits my ideas of a great cruiser positive it's out of my budget. Don't get the whole debate.
