Multi hull owners have various reason why they bought multihulls. Interiors in most cases depend on two factors ... what you get when you buy, what you want when you buy and what labor intensity you need. On the other hand money dictates everything! So if a heeling yacht is your thing ... buy a mono. If you want comfort and luxary buy a multi hull!

And to get those with a Catamaran all you have to do is lack any sense of aesthetics. and have a SOH bypass

Palarran, I actually don't think this is ending too badly at all. Frankly, as I see it, most posts have been like barnakiels - rational and fair. Yes, we will always have those who are like religious zealots in their assessment of boating alternatives; fortunately, I think that this and the companion thread in the multihull section have proven that they are in the minority.

I'll play....

The speed is impressive, at least when they are not bloated gin palaces. I do like the netting between the hulls up front. Beyond that I can't think of much else. I prefer the boat healing over and being able to sit on the rail, so multis are not for me.

Most things but the price. I'd have one if I could afford it.
On second thought, they all suck and they're dangerous and ugly and their owners are a bunch of snooty drunks who can't sail and wear the opposite sex's clothing and makeup to hide their flea bites. Even their dogs are stinky & ugly.

Aesthetics are definitely the Achilles Heel of cats. Most require beer goggles before they look attractive. Thankfully, cat cockpits hold massively large coolers....

I'm a wannabe mono huller. Multi hulls look sweeter, are faster and don't draw much water....all the characteristics we dispise...

But once inside one tends to ignore such things. Especially if boarding from the stern.

I love the simple 30 ft. Wharram designs that are being built in Florida now. Seems like they would make wonderful cruising platforms for tropical places mostly because of the "outdoors living" quality, shallow draft, and fun "close to the water" sailing they offer. For me the bigger cruisng multis do nothing for me and my mono (in my own fevered mind) offers more of what I want in a long range cruising boat.

I've completed ocean races on both tri's and lots and lots of monohulls. The light racing tri's are a blast to sail and really get up to windward well. They don't heel so much of course, but the motion is quick and jerky and the boats do get thrown around a lot (surge, heave, yaw). I'd prefer to race a mono offshore simply for the fact that if built correctly, it will return to upright from a capsize.

Cruising - there is nothing so pleasant as a heavy displacement monohull heaved to waiting out a gale. Multi's are murder in these conditions. Still, I think the Wharrams and other cheap-to-build cats are the way to go for the ultra budget sailor who needs the deck space and shoal draft. They can be nice, well executed boats. But as soon as I hear Corian counter tops; e.g. Mooring 4300, Lagoon 470, Catana 401, Leopards - then I sense something is rotten and decadent. Or at least that thing is an inshore twin-engine beachable gin palace - not so bad, maybe, and it meets its design parameters, but it is not a true blue water proposition.

Finally, anyone can get lucky sailing any damn thing anywhere. Once or twice. Anecdotal success stories don't have much predictive validity. So for off-shore work stack the odds in your favor, which IMHO means light, agile, and low-windage in a multi; well built, stout, and powerful in a mono.

That definitely qualifies as a pretty boat. And I bet there's no Corian in sight....
