Hey all. A
newbie here. as my screename suggests i am a us
navy vet, and crossed the pacific and
indian ocean from
san diego to the persian gulf 3 times..in the mid to late 90's. although i spent the majority my time below decks in the 120f-240f(depending on sea temp)
engine room on 6 hour on 6 hour off shifts 24-7, on my little time off i'd creep topside and see some amazing sights(day and night) that i'll never be able to put in words. i've always lived by the ocean and have spent plenty of time on
power boats(not leaving the sight of land). anyways, some time has passed - and ive gone from broke
navy grease monkey to not-so-broke civil nuke
engineer. im in my early 30's but i figure by my early/mid 40's i'll be in position to retire. lately i find myself thinking what to do after that, and eventhough i have reciently learned to appreciate the wonderful
game of golf - i can't see myself aging on the greens of the, 'villages..floridas friendliest home town
'. i was thinking more like the blues of
french polynesia - back to the pacific for a few years or more, but i want to be the
captain this time!
ill be looking to do it with somthing in the 50' range. btw i have ZERO sailing experience thus far but by that time i will have taken lessons and will be ready to rock'n'roll when the time comes. but you gotta start somewhere so.....mono
hull or
catamaran?why or why not and how long?( in laymans terms please ) thanks in advance for any advise
