Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

the aft bulkhead is now inplace, ready to be fully laminated!

the doors even match , are vertical and level to the millimetre!.....after much head scratching, too'ing and fro'ing with templates etc,

I can now put the floors in in the aft cabins, galley and nav station in the hulls.

feels like real progress at last

Im looking at the effort, the time and the precision of the work going into this refit.

Wondering if you are going to keep this one....

The very one I bought and fitted last month - fits perfectly to steer the leg and was identical in every way to the Sillette one - except £60
Thanks for this link - did you get a 3/8" or 5/16" end? ebay has it listed as "3/8UNF OR 5/16UNF THREADS ON END RODS" so it's not clear.. the replacement I want is 3/8"

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Odd underwing profile for a cat - it almost looks like a trimaran.

And is the mast normally stepped so far aft? Looks like a good idea, as it's stepped virtually on the biggest (strongest?) bulkhead and makes for easy sail handling from the cockpit.

And beautifully finished inside.

Atoll if your looks anything like the one in the video there's gonna be a serious outbreak of boat envy.....

that is the standard mast position on the snowgoose, stepped aft, making the mainsail virtually redundant for downwind sailing.

the pod in the center allows 6'3" headroom in the saloon and generally houses the single diesel engine and retractable steerable sail drive under the aft deck.

the model in the video has twin engines ,that was an option offered by prout down side was that it makes that model quite a bit heavier hence the center pod in the water.

ideally the center pod should just "kiss" the surface of the water at the aft end offering little resistance

Wouldn't it slam badly in a seaway? I hear that's what happens to cats that have a low bridgedeck?

I have only sailed this one 400 miles as a virtually empty hull in reasonable conditions and never noticed slamming.

though at a guess I would think it no worse than a large rib in a seaway!
lots of insulation under and in the pod on mine which should dampen a lot of the noise.

I have not heard concerns over this from the many prouts that have circumnavigated.

friends that crossed to the Caribbean last year did however have to beef up some of the stringers under the forward cabin and saloon seats when they got to Antigua, but this was probably more to do with bad laminating on their home build by a previous owner.

Ssssh.......... it hermetically seals and only opens when the air extraction is complete.

Into wind in any sort of sea they slam like a SOB - in for F6 with quite big seas the factory tabbing on my heads sink pod broke away we were slamming so much - she is 40 years old to be fair but Prouts do slam - which is a shame as they're also able to point up more than many cats - my 35 will go ok at 45 degrees but as a cruising boat we just avoid upwind sailing...

What self respecting sailor wants to go to windward anyway?

Brilliant job you're doing, you must be set on keeping this one, the standard of work is really high, if you were going to sell you could get away with a lot less.
best of luck and fair winds.
