the water tank bulkheads are nidacore grp sandwich,but i have been having problems getting my workshop warm enough for the polyester resin to cure on the underside.

with the tank tops ,using 6mm ply as the core the weight saving would have been marginal.

i did think about using a nidacore panel in the anchor locker where i cut out the old rotten partician but only had 15mm core material,and the old bit of ply was 12 mm,so opted for ply to keep the structural integrity the same.

the outer panel is also the side of the fwd bunk and will be varnished to match the other existing bulkheads that i cant really change,unless i want to end up with an all white painted interiour

in the saloon ,gallley and nav area i will probably try to use composites for the structure if i can sort out the heating in my workshop.

but yes time is an issue if i am to get all the internal bulkheads in before it gets too cold to laminate onboard.

Im my youth, I restored 2 American cars from the ground up. When one was finished and I stood admiring it after 16 months of sold work on it... my dad came in with a piece of paper....

"Son" he said, he never could remember my name...... "If you sell this car for 30K, and taking into account the parts cost, you will have made 28p an hour." He laughed all the way out of the door......

Sometimes it feels like that. But..... it sure beat working for someone else.

This is going to be the best Prout on the sea ever when completed.

i don't know about the best one,but it surely is the lightest one on the water at the moment!
it is also definitely the only gaff rigged prout elite!

Have you sailed it in its current sail setup around the harbour for a test sail?

we brought it down from essex to cornwall with that rig,and sailed into falmouth when the wind picked up at the end of the trip.

at the moment she is still able to sail,though needs 15-20knots with such a small sail area,so it would just be a matter of hanking on the jib,starting the engine and casting off the lines if i needed to move or go out for a day sail...........in fact i hear you can still buy cheap teak in trinidad

not many boat yard projects you can do that on

The mast looks a touch thin/slender in the pics.... is that the standard mast?

mast and rig is only about 6 meters ,about half the size of the standard mast,it came off the macwester i restored a few years back.

i thought it would be a good back up for the trip down from london in case the engine or sterndrive packed up enroute,......

the RNLI have enough to do rescuing people in fully functional yachts.....with out risking their lives for those that chose to go to sea in a fiberglass shell

found a great way of making up templates using cellotex off cuts,which is the same pu foam that i am using for the stiffners.

photos of the stiffners being glassed up in the workshop,fwd bulkhead template,fwd cabin cut out ,anchor locker 1st section glassed in place.

last photo,i have decided to build a freezer compartment in the stb side wet locker , you will see the door has been replaced for a hatch on the bulkhead.

Will have to share Some photos of Projects on Gypsy Voyager ... Just fitting 8 flexible bladders in integral keel water tanks. I had them custom made in China for 1/10 the cost of Australian made custom bladders ... So am curious to compare Quality when they arrive
