Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Atoll,

I'm drooling over your head.. just sooo much nicer than our Prout's run-down head

Is your head really mounted on an angle, or has SaltyMonkey been drinking too much funny water again?

Our head is mounted straight which works well in a seaway as I can brace my knees on the outer wall (which I need to in order to stay put!)

Another note - I'm not sure how your tank goes overboard.. you may want to consider a gravity drain mounting if you push it up the wall slightly.. then a thru-hull just at your sub-floor (which looks to be the ~waterline). This works very well for us!

Geoff.

the head is more or less parallel with the panelling at seat level so might appear slightly turned inboard at base level, also as I had to change bowls from regular jabesco to mini bowl it was not attached to the base at the time of the photo,so could have been not quite square on the base!

the locker floor is raised quite a bit above the waterline~15 inches or so and the holding tank has a 50mm drain so hopefully this should work as a gravity drain system ok

I changed the standard locker door size and floor by raising the lower door sill so that all the skinfittings are contained in a watertight compartment should there ever be a leak, the shower sump pump should also fit nicely in there as well

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

hi Geoff
we have made a fair bit of progress,in between doing 2 Biscay yacht deliveries , a trip to hungary, daughter moving to Australia, and selling one of our other yachts.

unfortunately my camera died, hence the lack of postings, but I will endeavour to get some shots later today of the progress with my new "smart"phone(operator still trying to work out the settings!)

so now you're the Biscay Bomber. Hopefully the last 2 were larger than the 26 foot Westerly.

the marvels of modern technology ,got the camera working, though will need a bit more practice with this phone camera.

fitted hatches in the aft cabins, which make a big difference to the amount of light in there.
i am still toying with the idea of fitting hatches either in the deck above or non opening windows on either outboard side in the aft cabins.

all trim ,surfaces and doors finished in the head, and fitted, just plumbing in the holding tank and bilge pump at the moment.

stb side fore cabin locker getting final coat of paint before bilge pump plumbing fitted.

I would like to spend a few weeks in the boat yard on the hard next spring to fit all the skin fittings, new stern drive and steering cables,as trying to do it on the slip between tides would be fairly difficult.

in the mean time I will probably concentrate on fitting all the battoning for the insulation and ceiling panels throughout the boat ,as well as fabricating the grp mouldings for the window trim and deckhead in the workshop.

Yo Alex
Glad you have productive earning time on deliveries ~ all to spent again rapidly on family stuff..

Suggestion... as this build will be part of your memories.. go spend £50 on a nice compact lumix for your photos. It will be worth it and better than that, it will just work, be in focus and easy to store.

A 14-foot mini-cruiser is minimalist. A 19ft is comfortable, and anything much larger than a 25 borders on ostentatious.
