Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Mmmmmm....more bling.....

As an aside, I finally got my old I-420 dinghy in the water, after much fettling and fiddling, so I am officially a 'sailor' once more....

But I visited my tri project out back of my sister's barn yesterday, and he's not happy with my levels of neglect, but appears happy enough to act as a respite home for bird-harassed orb weavers while I ifnish the refurb of the house and put aside the necessary to continue the build.

There's always a silver lining for someone....

well I got the camera working after a fashion I still haven't managed to get onboard to take some photos of the new furniture construction in the galley , nav station, and aft cabins but here goes.......some thing to whet your appetite

new SMEV oven from ebay, won at a considerable discount, less than half retail price so happy with that

some of the glass mouldings for the underdeck and hull surfaces inside the new cupboards fabricated in the workshop.

my sons new terabit twinscreen monster computer in the nav station on the big boat, which is giving me ideas for a "central digital nervous system" on the cat

I will try take some interior shots on the cat later today...if it stops pissing down with rain...........

congrats on getting back on the water
I have managed only 3 times this year to get out on our fully equipped ,ready to go 26 footer on the mooring in the bay.and that was to do some maintanance

I suggest moving the tri into the living room at home then you can combine house renovation with boat building

as i say to the wife when she complains about all the jobs that need doing on our liveaboard......"I will do it soon......you just don't have to remind me every six months!"...................

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Ah, the project. Photos! Wonderful. For a moment there I thought the red thingie was a MIG welder and you had suddenly switched to steel. Then I got wise. Or not so wise as I now ponder how moisture will handle a box of that type. Doesn't matter. It can double as a faraday cage.

oh joy! work continues though. slowely but progress is best when taken with an ingress of good tuck and blabla. Your son needs larger screens. The throttle to his left needs to be plugged into the red thingie for better control.

I see on the weather screen to his left you are fast approaching a very heavy storm, and the radar screen to his right shows a clump of fast approaching LPG ships and one purple submarine. It may be wise to tack if your mast is still up today.

These are monkey comments I have no control.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

LOL. Yeah, good to get back out on the water, but it reminded me why I'm building a trimaran, as my back ached for a week afterwards. All that leaning out to counterbalance the wind on the main. Forgot the kicking straps. Doh.

Solo with the jib up I managed to get the end of the boom in the water a couple of times in sudden gusts (let go the main sheet real quick) and got the lee rail under a few times on a more steady beat. Fickle wind, coming off the hills around Correa Bay near Woy Woy. Lost one or other of the jib sheets while tacking - twice - so am going to join them and make a continuous sheet. Stop it sliding through the eyes and over the side when released from the cam cleats.

BTW, that "two terabit twin screen monster" thingy is not bling - that's PC crack!

Smokin'!!

That new Yorkshire drug - shouldn't that be "ba goom"? Or is it supplied in chewing form as eGum..???

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

as promised I finally got the camera to work it seems not to be saving the most recent photos ready for download,so have to sort through a file of 249 photos to find the latest

last month was spent mainly in the workshop making up mouldings for the deck undersides for both outboard hull areas.

shown in the photo is one of the moldings fitted temporally in stb aft cabin,as it needs to come off again to fit the solar panel arch.
it is a bit wavey till it gets finally fitted with supporting trim, but allows me to measure up for the next moulding above.

the next photos are of the outboard lockers in the galley and navigation areas, housing the new oven and Rum Storage, note the interior mouldings fitted with insulation and wiring behind on port locker.

these will be painted white inside with a varnished facia panel and sliding doors.
the oven locker gets lined with 0.7mm aluminium panel and heat proof insulation

happy perusing and seasons greetings

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Not sure I understand what you mean by the "mouldings".

Are they reinforcing for the hull/deck join..??

Made off-site to avoid 'epoxy hair'..??

Nice work either way - especially the rum store - only, are you sure you made it big enough???

Grease on seatings to you also.

Grease on seatings to you also.
these particular"mouldings" are light weight high gloss panels for the interior surfaces in the cabins with a 90 degree radius that cover the hull deck joint.
they also are removable for access to the toerail bolts along the hull deck joint
behind them is celotex insulation or flexible bubble wrap type reflective insulation, then the hull itself.

the idea is to create a nice easy to clean ,light weight, bright surface for the interior in the cabins.

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Ahh! OK! I get it now. It's essentially custom-made lining for the interior deck/hull join, reomvable for maintenance and wiring access etc.

I was thinking ti was something you were bonding onto the deck/hull surface as reinforcing and to avoid the upside-down work with epoxy getting in your hair etc

Making a lot more sense now.....

I like bright light interiors for sure, don't you? I never clean because dirt is cheap!

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

Oddly enough, I actually like dark interiors. Call me a Goth.

I can't sleep if there is light leakage into the sleeping quarters.

Unless I've drunk the last of the rum.....

From a standing start.....
