Yeah, true, and only reason for not doing it on ply boats is you need to be REALLY good with the glass/epoxy lining beforehand, and the underside of the top is always tricky - or at least the joins are.....

I consider myself as fairly good with finish joinery. However, the few times I have helped others finish cabin interiors, the curves and bends have tested my abilities to the max. Everything is templates and fitting and refitting. You even have to find the level of the vessel if its not chocked square on the blocks.

Ive followed this build with great interest. Some of the best work will be hidden behind a (slightly curved) sheet of wood.

also as per the prout design,all the "above" cabin sole frames are fastened to the cabin sole floor ,so all the furniture is effectively either a stringer or a frame on the outboard side and fully glassed to the hull to create a "honeycomb" structure.

As you know, Ive not been a Prout lover due to cabin layouts experienced, but of late, I have come across some mild redesigns (Aesthetically) but the structure remained, and many things make a lot of sense. Brit thinking is boots and braces in the Cat world and some great ideas were incorporated.

now the floors are in ,I finally have datum that I can work from!.
up until now the only datum that I have had to work from has been the forward bulkhead!

life should be considerably easier for the rest of the fit out from here on in

a prefabricated tank top coated on both sides,then,
wide glue joints under tank top,
with the tank top recessed into a frame ,then,
the 90 deg lip above filleted and glass taped makes for a robust seal on both upper and lower edges of the tank top.

all floors glued and foamed in,in the mean time started fitting in the bulkhead for the fridge compartment in the aft cabin.

will epoxy in floors manana as the polyeurathane foam needs 24hrs to cure properly

pipework in the lockers,and my holding tank that will get fitted in the bow compartment for the heads.

all other compartments will either be gel coated or painted with bilge cote,the grey **** you see in some of the photos,got given about 30 litres by the RN.

I generally use a roller or brush as on this scale spraying would be a lot of effort for not much gain in overall finish

edit; all other hidden areas of ply get epoxy resin painted

As we sit on the port-ch, rocking back and forth in our rocking chair, cracking walnuts and eating bananas while watching Atoll work his ARSE off, I have to say this is one of the most interesting threads on CF.

Wonder what all those black and red wires wrapped around the fresh water hoses in pic 4 are?

I was not thinking on terms of a beautiful finish, more of it being "finished". Something about opening a locker or looking in the recesses and seeing the area painted that gives confidence. It doesnt have to be gorgeous, just painted.

I spray everything. From a teen on thats what I do...... it gives uniformity and something I am familiar with. Roller or brush is fine.......
