should really have done them before putting in the bulkheads

All good tips, mate, cheers!

One of the reasons I'm contemplating removing the decks, on amas as well as vaka, is so I can access these areas to add the necessary reinforcing.

I want salmson posts on the transom corners so I have something super strong for deploying a drogue, for example, and I intend to have a permanent backstay as well, and will probably add davits for the dinghy - so lots of reinforcing needed in the transom lazarette area.

More pics, please, am watching with interest, and learning as you go...

Much less messy....

a bit of both depending on what it is holding, this got polyester as it is only really gap filling.
,the other side was fully bonded with epoxy filler and tape.
shouldn't need sanding much apart from removing splinters of glass.
the deck and bulk head should take most of the stress.

my day generally starts with grinding.......

I would be inclined to use a conventional aluminium cleat with a large base area instead of a Samson post and reinforce the underside of the deck ,transom/hull corner/apex with multiple Kevlar or carbon epoxy layers, probably stronger and a lot lighter.

the deck, rather than make a lot of work changing it and lose headroom I would put some sort of toe rail so as to make it safer from slipping off the sloping deck.

you could also roll the hull over in a cradle to do the inside roof

just an idea

Re: Modernizing a Prout Elite 37ft

It seems the only way to do it properly is to do it yourself - good job. I was looking over a Swan 100 this winter that had a deck leak and they were stripping out all the super expensive woodwork to get to the underside and fix it - mirror like varnish on the facing side - none at all one the hidden parts to protect it - so it was going mouldy and starting to rot. And that was on a 7 year old $15M boat!

LOL

Its a shame we live in different parts. The launching party of Atolls boat would be something. Me thinks he may just load it up and disappear into the twilight as befitting a quiet departure......

I will wave a hankie from the window here in Bristol area.......

Buzzman,

Yes the Prout Snowgoose does slam quite a bit when going into an oncoming sea (it can actually be scary watching the baby stay go completely slack), but it doesn't take much of a shift so you aren't head and have a pretty pleasant ride.
