Marina slip in the Chesapeake

My wife and I live aboard and would like to be in the Chesapeake for August / September of 2016. Our first 10 phone calls resulted in no room at the inn. Our Helia 44 beam is 24 feet.
Any suggestions for a marina that accommodates catamarans? The Annapolis area is our first search zone; however, we are flexible.
Thank you for your ideas.

Re: Marina slip in the Chesapeake

Have you looked through Active Captain?
Seems to be a good place to start.

I have the Cat haul out list, but that will not work for selecting a good catamaran dock.

Re: Marina slip in the Chesapeake

If you need a slip as opposed to an end tie that may be a tall order anywhere in the area. For end ties, many of the marinas in the Baltimore Inner Harbor should be able to accommodate you as they generally never fill up to capacity - Anchorage, Lighthouse Point, and the Inner Harbor Marina in particular. They are all in relatively safe areas and have gated docks with security. The nearby dining and nightlife/entertainment options in Baltimore will be better than anywhere else on the bay (including Annapolis) and you have a West Marine and Safeway right at Lighthouse Point/Anchorage.

Fairview Marina in Pasadena on Rock Creek should be able to accommodate your beam as well but is not walkable to anywhere.

You may also want to call some of the marinas on Kent Island.

A second vote for Anchorage in Baltimore where I am. Lots of Big cats accomodated along the very long end tie called P Pier. Pool, grills, bathrooms right there on P. Sailing past Ft McHenry on your way in is amazing.

I too would recommend the Anchorage Marina in Baltimore harbor. Much cheaper than Annapolis and close to everything in Fells Point area. Also, can hop on a water taxi to go to any part of the harbor. They usually have many large cats staying there during the summer months.

Re: Marina slip in the Chesapeake

We have our Corsair 36 (26' beam) on a T head at Hartge Yacht Harbor; great place with moorings and they might have something. Call Buddy Raley at 443-607-6306 or 443-624-1858 and tell him Lee sent you.

On the South River is a marina that has cats and I believe the fellow that sells Seawinds works out of there. It's by the bridge, but I can't recall the name.

Another vote for Anchorage Marina in Baltimore. We own a slip there and it's a great place, just redid the lounge (wifi / nice "living room"), laundry, clean heads, pool, barbecue areas, quiet at night and close to a zillion restaurants. Safeway and Starbucks across the street.

Henderson's Wharf at Fells Point in Baltimore. Hot area with lots of dining and entertainment. I keep a boat there on the West End dock.

Henderson's Wharf Marina - Baltimore - United States

Catamaran-Friendly Wide Berths Available

Re: Marina slip in the Chesapeake

try long cove marina on the chester river near Rock Hall on the eastern shore. They are modestly priced, you can haul pretty much any size craft, let you work on your boat and have relatively cheap land storage.

Re: Marina slip in the Chesapeake

Try Swan Creek marina here in Rock Hall. There are a couple of cats here your size. Great reasonable marina.

Liberty marina or Pier 7 on South River have room for cats.

If you don't need to be in the center of the city, check down bay at the Rapahanock. Deltaville has lots of marinas, good access to bay, plenty places to go on the water. My favorite...
Powells Marina Deltaville Va | Index Very quiet family owned marina. End of Turner Creek on the Fishing Bay side of Deltaville. Can accommodate cats on inside dock.

Re: Marina slip in the Chesapeake

At least on the Northern Chesapeake I think you will have better luck on a mooring. Georgetown on the Sassafras, Swan Point Marina in Rock Hall, etc. Active Captain is a good resource.
