Manufacture Warranty on New Production Catamaran?

What is the typical manufacture warranty on new production catamarans?

I searched the forum with limited info, but google turned up the stuff below. Can anyone confirm below or help fill in blanks? I am researching a new cat and trying to gauge what is a "typical" or "good" warranty. Based on below ~5 years structural and osmosis? Also do these typically transfer with resale or are they just valid for original owner?

Outremer – 5 years structural. In past may have been 10 years structural and 5 years osmosis (aeroyacht website, resale listings)
Catana – 5 years structural (resale listings)
Fountaine Pajot – 5 year hull, 1 year boat (BYA website)
Lagoon - 5 years? In past may have been 10 year blister, 5 year structural (resale listing and 2002 crusing world article)
Seawind - 5 years (2004 cruising helmsman article)
Leopard - ?
Antares - ?

Thanks,
Drew

Re: Manufacture Warranty on New Production Catamaran?

Most manufactures offer a 1 year stem to stern warranty, and 5 years or so for manufacturing defects of the hull and super structure...

Warrantys are only good if the manufacturer stays in business. Ask Hunter owners about the value of the warranty. Zero.

Last year. Now owned by the "new" Hunter.

So is the NEW HUNTER basically the same as the OLD HUNTER only without obligations to customers and creditors?

Liam,

That's what Chapter 11 is all about! They sold the assets, kept the liabilities. Pay out pennies on the dollar.

Re: Manufacture Warranty on New Production Catamaran?

So it sounds like 5 year structural and 1 year end-to-end is the closest thing to a standard? Provided that the company is still around when something goes wrong.

Is osmosis/ blistering considered within the structural warranty if not called out separately? It typically doesn't show up for 3-5+ years but it seems some manufacturers are willing to treat under warranty. If not structural is the motivation for them to treat to protect their brand name?

Thanks!

Re: Manufacture Warranty on New Production Catamaran?

I know of a couple of manufactures that have written work off as warranty work even though the hull warranty has expired... I think most reputable builders know that a 20K is warranty work done is a lot less costly than the bad PR associated with a hull failure...

That being said... Don't expect a manufacture to do anything on a boat that more than 1-2 years outside of the hull warranty.

About to test the water with Lagoon as I have a hull problem which they claim to be cosmetic. On a boat only two and a half years old, original owner, I'm waiting anxiously to see how thing go. Reputations are on the line!
