Left Torquay Beach Hervey bay Qld today 25knot S/E heading north under power , fine 6knts turned south into rough headwind and against tide suddenly no go engines ok saildrives seemed ok props were spinning at idle but no thrust at 2500rpm what the??

Or the shift linkages are probably out of adjustment if both are acting that way at the same time...

Is it definitely no thrust? So you were going backwards?

It seems both engines developing the same symptom is unlikely to be a mechanical issue.

Punching into a steep chop from a developed 25kn headwind and against tide at the same time requires a fair bit of power - 2500rpm does not seem a lot in those circumstances. What size engines?

As you turned around I assume you were heading for the safety of Great Sandy Strait or Tin Can Bay area. Hervey Bay would be a good place to avoid at present.

I thought the same but when safely in harbour tried to manouver into pen had to use full power to get any movement , something is slipping , either cones or props. Cant believe that both could fail at the same time. Will go for a swim today put in gear and test props first. For other replies i was well aware or the weather and was taking Antigua 3 miles to safety of harbour till all is calm again, from my usual anchorage. Running 40hp volvo pentas plenty of power , have been in similar conditions before with no problem. Thanks to all Paul

South of Gladstone puts you in the dangerous quadrant of the cyclone in the southern hemisphere.

Yes, two cyclones off Northern Australia at the moment.
