Re: Looking for Point of Views on the best sailing Catamaran for a couple who cruise

Boatman, was the L380 set up as standard from the factory or was it optioned that way. I'm thinking the electric winch might not be standard and maybe more.

To the best of my knowledge yes.. but.. to be sure... hopefully Monte or Rod is reading this and will come in with the definitive answer as they both bought their boats new..

Re: Looking for Point of Views on the best sailing Catamaran for a couple who cruise

Check out the Maxim 380 and also the Voyage 440 - there used to be snaller Voyage but have not seen them on the ads of late. I have the Maxm 380 owners version - 2 queens, 1 double, 2 singles and 2 heads. All lines come back to the cockpit, the dinghy lifts on it's own boom to the back dive platform and she is easy to handle - I single hand her. Very spacious boats

Check out this Manta. Notice how the lines route to the helm. It has a removable windshield too. This is what you want no matter what brand you choose. The Manta owners are fanatics about their boats.

Sure, depends much more on the set up of the boat than the LOA. I captain cats up to 65 feet with only 1 other crew/cook and often they are not really competent crew (their skills in the galley are more important for charters, crew skills become more important for cruising) so in effect single handing. Might ask them to hold a line occasionally, but that's about it. Competent crew is of course more convenient.

+1. For cruising use a Manta is a good set up. Self tending jib is handy.

This is the set up on the Lagoon 380... the big winch is the electric/manual one the smaller just manual.. as you can see all lines easy to reach from the helm..
