Looking for good 50ft Cat with roller furling in the boom

Anyone using the furling in the boom on a 50ft cat. Im going to be
single handle most of the time and my older friends won't be able to help.
So I need to have it simple with electric winch and furling in the boom.

Re: Looking for good 50ft Cat with roller furling in the boom

Our Lagoon 440 has a Profurl system, we have a Harken 53 electric on the halyard which then is used on the downhaul/drum.

Absolutely a pleasure to use, fast easy and safe. Reefing anywhere between 1 and 100% in a minute.

Keeping a little tension as you downhaul ensures a tight wrap. No different to a headsail furler in that way.

Beauty of it all is if you get jammed you can still drop the main.
Full battens give great shape we are totally stoked!

Take a look at the SMG 50. Seems to fit the bill!

As the chap above says the profurl system works quite okay, of course you dont have to have boom roller furling to do it single handed. Single line slab reefing, lines lead back to cockpit and a lazy jacks/sail bag works for me single handing.

Re: Looking for good 50ft Cat with roller furling in the boom

I have a Schaefer boom furler on a Lagoon 37 that I recently purchased. It works great when it works, but there is an art to use it properly. And if a problem develops, it can turn into a big problem. Yes, you can just drop the sale and use slab reefing, but It is not an easy task to manage the main sail of a 50' cat in any kind of wind without the help of lazy jacks. It is not something that a single person can easily manage in any kind of wind. There is value in simplicity.

Would it not be simple enough to rig lazy jacks for any boom furler to have as back up for emergencies? Might not be used much but not expensive.
