I would like to join. My Leopard is a 45, year 1999, named Jet Stream. I have owned her since 2004, live aboard and operate her as a crewed charter boat in the caribbean. I have also sailed her to the Chesapeake and back and have added numerous upgrades. I would love to hear other people's observations and have a few of my own.

Re: Leopard Owners Group

Hi all
My wife and I have decided on selling our home and buying a 43ft or 47ft leopard to live on full time on the north east coast of Australia.
We are still not sure on the best size.We will be have family and friends over but We want to be able to sail her with just the two of us.
Buying in Florida seems to be the place to go but am looking for as much advise as we can get as we are new to catamarans.
regards Steve

Hi
I own a lagoon 440 but can honestly say the leopard 47 is a fantastic vessel.
I have friends who own them and a family who sailed around the world on one, two adults and three children - they absolutely rave about their leopard 47.
In SA we often go on long trips together on our independent vessels. We all keep up with each other and average speeds in nice wind conditions of about 12 knts.
Having had said that, they also love my lagoon 440 - especially the fly bridge.
The leopards bathrooms and toilets are superior to my Lagoon 440 but the main cabin is more spacious and better layout than the leopard. Also the leopard beds are not as nicely set out as in getting around the sides if the bed to make them up. The leopard has more outdoor patio space off the main cabin whereas the lagoon 440 is more 'around the table type seating style'.
The lagoon has a nice feature in the roof over the patio area where there is a gold out section that houses a table and legs nicely tucked out of the way.
Either way - these are really nice boats and you would not be disappointed if you bought the leopard 47.

Yes it is. We joined 6 months before we purchased our boat. There's a wealth of Leopard specific knowledge on the forum.

Comparing your friends leopard 47 to your lagoon, does the 47 have more slamming in rough seas??

Hi Ratcatcher ... saw you guys in Grenada ... where are you all now? We are hanging in the BVI for hurricane season. Ok back to the question ...I really think the 'slamming' is similar ... the lagoon has a 'V' shape running under it from front to back in the middle (not good sailing terminology) which is meant to break it up a bit ... in reality it just creates a different sound as water channels down each side at speed and competes to get out the other side. We like the 'V' as what we have noticed is that the Lagoon 440 does not nose dive as much ... as the two hulls drop into the water, the 'V' begins to make contact with its surface and the bouancy in the 'V' lifts the bows up out of the water when being pushed down a wave.
Having said that ... I put Leopard on par with Lagoon ... we are LOOKING to possibly up size and flew to Miami to look at the Lagoon 56 (Impressive). We have put negotiations on hold as we are now waiting to see the new Leopard 58 (had some sneak pre-views ... Impressive). At last the whole 'Bridge deck' is catching on ... soon I bet customers will all be going for new cats with bridge decks ... watch this space!

Re: Leopard Owners Group

Hey what is your boat name then? We are in St Martin. Will be flying to BVI'S today to deliver a Leopard40 back here. Maybe we can say hi. Look out for us on Southern Blue.

Cool ... our boat name is IMPI ... we are anchored off Peter Island in Deadmans Bay. You probably know our good mates John and Denise on Nauti cat, Greg and Debbie on Blue Diamond ... we met the 'Fire dancers' (not sure where they are now .. and the good folk from Ikhaya (spelling?)

Are you picking up from Moorings? Christine?

Ps ... sorry for deviating a bit on the thread ... Leopard ... great boat!
