Re: Large Catamaran Flips In Sydney

Why the apparent glee at the flipping of a cat, but never the sinking wreck of a mono? I'm just asking; and btw, which hulk would you rather inhabit as a survival platform?

Yes that too. Especially with only one inexperienced crewman.

Main and jib could not be released in time and boat went over. Mast got stuck in mud hence final position. Boat was to be repaired and back onto water ASAP. No persons injured other than loss of some face.

Actual Facts, not ill-informed drivel. Makes a refreshing change.

Anyway around here most of the cats motor upwind and I would say most monohulls too.

Upwind sailing is by far the most common sail point on the med.

As I have said, it has to do mostly with the boat, being it a monohull or a multihull: on both types there are fast boats even if most of cruising boats are slow ones, being them cats or monohulls.

For doing 7,5K upwind I only I need 9/10k wind.
Let me get this right, at nine months into the year you had sailed 2000 nautical miles. Seriously I would have expected a much greater distance achieved in that time frame given you recently stated in another thread that you never sit at anchor for more than two days straight.
Please correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't that average out at roughly 15 nm per leg? Does that qualify as sailing or Bay hopping? ...

Not that there is anything wrong with bay hopping, especially if you are a cruiser.
