Lagoon Duty Fees from France

I'm in the process of negotiating a new 440.
Does anybody have some experience in dealing with ordering from Europe and what Duty costs are involved.
I've been told that it is about 1.8% of the cost and that it is completely seperate from the price of the boat.

I'm not sure I beleive that. I think it may be another pawn in the chess game that is the negotiation. We're talkin' 11-13K additional dollars!

I've never heard of any other product that outlines it's Tariff costs to the consumer.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I bought a European boat several years ago. The European owner paid a duty to import it into the US so that he could then sell it to me in the US. If I remember, the duty was between 1.5% and 2%. We figured the duty into the sale price. The Coast Guard checked that duty had been paid as part of the documentation process.

If it makes you feel better, this is a lot less than the 19% VAT a Frenchman would have to pay to keep the boat in France.

Remember, you may also have the state sales tax.
