Re: Lagoon 55/57 Not the 570

1ercru I have to agree with you on both the size of boat and upkeep. A 57 cat if not set up for single handing would be a lot for two people to sail. I guess when you buy a 20 yr old boat of this size it is important to purchase with a major refit in mind. No matter what the owner says it is going to need some money spent on it.

Re: Lagoon 55/57 Not the 570

Some random thoughts when I was considering these, I would have moved the galley up to that oversized salon. We don't have a cook to sequester in the galley; all our friends want to be a part of the prep for meals, if nothing more than to keep the conversation and wine flowing to those actually working.

Five heads and seven showers also means lots of plumbing, all the time.

A CF mast with hi tech sails and updated rigging and electric wenches all around, folding props, etc for go-fast upgrades.

And I thought I had some grand plans for go fast goodies. Might as well put some dagger boards in it if you get a CF mast.

Thought about it...for 5 seconds...came to my senses and dropped the whole idea.

Re: Lagoon 55/57 Not the 570

I saw one at anchor in the lagoon at Bora Bora twenty years ago and I have been smitten ever since.

I reckon at least once a month I check which ones are for sale.

Re: Lagoon 55/57 Not the 570

Cats 50' plus are very large sailing machines, very big loads, acres of real estate... and require careful, dedicated, experienced couples with very deep pockets and a commitment to maintain the boat 24/7.
Cats 40-50' are all of the above on a smaller scale (not much smaller...)

and so on and so on....
My ho and observations anyways...
