Lagoon 450 Ice Maker

We are wanting to install an ice maker in the cockpit in the cabinet next to the fridge on our Lagoon 450. We are asking for recommendations, make/model, and installation tips. Thanks in-advance.

Re: Lagoon 450 Ice Maker

I had a Raritan, it made a lot of ice,10kg in 24hrs. Although its a marine unit the back housing and floor is galvanised steel, and eventually will rust. Mine was exposed to the weather unlike where you will be putting it, you will just have salt air. The unit was really trouble free except for a timer, its a whirlpool timer! Havnt had any experience with any others however we have just ordered a new Helia 44 Evolution delivered in Jan 2017, we didn't take the factory ice maker we will see how we go. The units are 240v so when theres no power the ice wont last long inside unless you put it in the freezer, but then you could make plenty of ice in the freezer, that's why we are waiting.

Re: Lagoon 450 Ice Maker

Agree with TOT extra 100 lt freezer is a lot more use on board than a dedicated Ice Maker. If you need to, have a small bench top ice maker then put it into your extra freezer.

Re: Lagoon 450 Ice Maker

Hi SK,
have to agree with Paul. We have a portable ice maker that is capable of making 2O KG a day. We make ice as needed or to make ice to keep our freezer full and increase the cold thermal mass of the freezer when its not full. We have never run out of ice and normally have between 5 and 10 KG of ice on hand storing it in a flexi thermal bag within the freezer. We find that we make ice when we are motoring utilising the invertor or when the batteries are fully charged when anchored. Our portable machine is a Polycool brand and is only rated at 150 Watts so its quite efficient. We bought ours off Ebay for $169. It has paid for itself several times over. Due to the electronics you require a sine wave invertor to run it. One trick we learned to when you intially use the unit, fill the resovior with chilled water as it makes the process tomake larger ice cubes quicker.

Re: Lagoon 450 Ice Maker

Thanks for the ideas. We had thought about the freezer and have actually gone back and forth between installing a freezer using a portable ice maker or just installing the ice maker. At the end of the day it really makes more sense to go that route. Always good to read/hear someone say what you are thinking. What model freezer did you install? Any installation or operating issues? Thanks again!

Re: Lagoon 450 Ice Maker

Here is a picture of our installation. We also installed a dedicated 1200 Watt inverter so the ice stays frozen rather than melting when you don't have AC power from the generator or shore power. 1200 watts is overkill but a 600 watt unit couldn't handle the startup surge.

The installation was done by first removing the entire tub that houses the cockpit cabinet, then laying in a support floor for the units, and cutting a faceplate from star-board.

I know of two other Lagoon 450 owners who have now had the same installation done and one more who is planning to have it done.

This installation is so much nicer than having a refrigerator and an ice maker sitting inside a cabinet.

Here are the items we installed:
Refrigerator: ISOTHERM Cruise130 Drink Stainless Steel Refrigerator, ACDC,
West Marine Model # 14995393 | Mfg # 1130BA7MK0000

Ice maker: INDEL MARINE White Ice Maker, Stainless Steel Door, West Marine
Model # 14015762 | Mfg # 5W08A141M0000

Larry,
That looks super clean! Great installation. Did you do it your self? I will hit you up again when we get ready to have this done. Thanks for sharing!
