Lagoon 41 vs Leopard 43

So the admiral and I are getting close to selecting our cruising cat. She likes the Lagoon 41 owners version with the large head and open galley and I'm liking the leopard 43 with the more open cockpit. Anyone one familiar with either please chime in. It will be a liveaboard and our budget is around $300k US. Good things bad things we want to hear it all.

Both are good well designed boats. My preference would be for the Leopard 43. That is my personal favorite of the boats they have built. Where is the engine access for the Lagoon? I know on the Leopard it's aft of the aft bulkhead and access is excellent through an aft hatch.

L41 is under the aft beds.

Yes, it´s right. Lagoon have started make engine access outside for all models since L380. (L400, L420, L440, L450, L500, L560, L620 all have engine access outside)

While I have not been on a 41 photos Ive looked at showed a hatch on the aft steps. It is a little different than the 380 not quite as large but without seeing one I couldn't say. Having to access the engines through the berth would definitley make me lean towards the Leopard. We looked at all the new cats at the strictly sail in Miami and most of the them if not all had access through dedicated hatches aft. Anyone here know if the saildrive on the L41 is behind the rudder.

On another note with respect to the Leopard, how good is the bridgedeck clearance. It appears to be less than the lagoon. We returned from a week aboard a L380 and in the heavier seas there was only occasional hull slapping. Any first hand knowledge would be helpful. Thanks again for the responses.

The fact that the Leopard 43 has shaft drives to me a is a big advantage over saildrives. The cost of maintance associated with saildrives combined with the smell created by engines under a berth, would sway me toward the Leopard.

IMHO, leopard 43: engines not under bunk, shaft drives.

The engines on the 43 are under the aft bunks also.
