Re: keeping old sails?

Craigslist? No such thing. not here. No Lowes, MacDonalds, Burger King, West Marine nor Ace Hardware. No Dunkin Donuts, Wendys, 7-11, UTotem, Midas Muffler or Jiffy Lube. No Ford, Chevy, Dodge, or Toyota dealers.

I'm also scratching my head looking at two spinnaker poles, a watermaker, a six man liferaft, and other stuff I took off this boat. Bad place to do a refit, I guess.

Re: keeping old sails?

Canibul,

Stumble refers to SAILS FOR SUSTENANCE, a charity that ships sails to folks who can use them for all sorts of things. Here's the website, perhaps there is something near you for pickup Sails for Sustenance | Donating Used Sails to Fishermen in Haiti

I can't believe there's not someone around who could use the stuff you're taking off the boat for some purpose. If it costs more to ship than you'd make by selling the stuff, consider asking around to see if anyone might want the things even if it's not going to be used for boating. A little karma never hurt anyone

Re: keeping old sails?

Thanks, but those are different places, different countries. There's no Craigslist here. It's still an international shipment with substantial costs involved.

You have quoted a post that was not directed to the Op.

Re: keeping old sails?

Why not use the old sails until they self destruct ? That way you can trash them without crying. I once got 1000 miles from an old string sail. For the last 300 miles it had a 3ft hole in the middle.

Re: keeping old sails?

nimblemotors I know someone starting the process collecting old sails in the Bay area for a good maritime cause, they'll be making sailbags and totes and donating the proceeds to charity -- send me a PM and maybe I can link you up to donate? Another person is trying to set up on the East coast to support the same cause but don't know if they've got a place yet.
