Re: Jensen Catamaran

Yes am in contact with Scuttle bug

Yes is rotating mast this is the problem, none of the "experts" can explain the how to make th mast work, is the mast safe.

Seems that the Whitestick was ahead of even this time, one rigger told me that it would not works and would break sailing even in the bay

Re: Jensen Catamaran

Interesting.

Fayze Too out of Esperence had their whitestick fail and they replaced it with a conventional aluminium stick.

A few others that I have been aboard have fixed the mast base to stop rotation.
Dreamweaver (40 ft ??)was one from memory

I attempted to lift a whitestick in the early days when I was at Andrews yard in Hendersen. I was supprised how floppy it was. Much may have changed from those early days.

I'm pretty sure a Schionning he built (SJ Marine) also ended up with a version of the white stick. That was also fixed shortly after launching to stop rotation.

Re: Jensen Catamaran

Good day people,

I have a Jensen 33ft Cat with a white stick mast I am looking to replace with an aluminium non rotating mast.

Has anybody got and info to shed on the matter. Eg cost, change of sailing characteristics etc.

Thanks

Re: Jensen Catamaran

We've got a mast that we are told was built by Jensen Catamarans in 1999. Trying to track down more info on them and/or Whitestick (or is it White Stick?). Was Whitestick made by Jensen or were they a separate company?
Anyone know what years they operated? Trying to figure out how much to distrust ours It was commissioned as a complete custom, the stick itself is 72 feet rotating wing mast, max chord is 600mm. I've seen comments on Whitestick masts on Jensen cats failing, @Seaslug Caravan commented on how "floppy" one of them was. Ours is quite stiff - picked up from center with a crane and straps only about 2 feet apart she barely flexes. Still, there are details of the construction that leave me scratching my head, and critical fittings that can't be inspected. Any/all info re: Jensen/Whitestick and/or failures, etc, very much appreciated.

Did you get any further in your quest for 'whitestick' details?

Re: Jensen Catamaran

I didn’t get any more info specifically on Jensen, why do you ask? We did however do bend tests on our mast, and it is more than stiff and strong enough. So despite the construction being a bit odd apparently Jensen was capable of building a good mast, even if they didn’t always. For us that leaves just replacing some oddly designed metal fittings, which we are doing with carbon fiber. So for anyone who sees this and has a non-white stick Jensen mast they are concerned about, find an engineer to help with bend tests and figure out the moments on the tube, you may be fine.
