Jackline between hulls.

One of the advantages of a cat is that, in the unlikely event of a capsize, the bottom of the bridgedeck makes for a good spot to await rescue.

One idea I came across was mounting a jackline between the hulls to act at an attachment point for tethers while awaiting rescue. It could be semi-permanent. I would want to check and clean it before any serious passages.

Any thoughts?

Don't see why not as long as it's high enough to not be in the water normally. Perhaps t shaped, one on each hull going forward to the crossbeam?

The idea of dragging a line in the water and then relying on it is dubious, perhaps. Additionally, clipping fixed points has been shown to have certain advantages:

• Less to snag
• Holds sailor in one spot (you can be washed along a jackline, particularly on the slick underbelly of a cat).

Better, add fixed points, and to make them simple and streamlined, make them 316SS climbing bolt hangers. These can easily be placed anywhere there is a 5/16-3/8" bolt coming through without creating a new hole. Moreover, they are designed for this purpose (many brands--this is typical).

I would cinch the webbing up tight to the hull. I am concerned that it might vibrate creating nuisance noise.

As long as it's kept clear of the water, it should be fine and have negligible impact on sailing.

If you are worried about being washed along the line, it wouldn't be hard to tie loops into it that you could hook into.

All the production Leopards (Moorings), Lagoons and Fountain-Pajot boats have strong points on the inside bow and stern above the water line just for the purpose of mounting Jack Lines.

Most laymen never notice them, but they are there on most A Rated Offshore Catamarans.

Your supposed to attach a line to them from a dinghy before you venture offshore.

I have noticed the strong points at the inside stern of a Leopard 48. Thanks for that.

Not only is it a good idea, its required under the Offshore Multihull Rule (A racing rule).

My 1992 Catana has eyestraps mounted on the underside of the bridgedeck

On my cat I have two strong lines running underneath the centre hulls / cockpit structure for just this occasion. Additionally I have painted this area in orange and applied a non-slip surface.

We have the same on our cat. We've never had a problem with noise from those jack lines.

Ours were stretched tight against each hull almost up against the bridge deck. Occasionally when surfing the water would interact with one causing some additional racket but not enough to consider removing them.

Sure, but probably redundant. I think most people seeing an upside catamaran realize it is in distress. The idea of the orange patch on the bottom is to make the boat more visible, particularly from the air. Same as the orange foils on the offshore racing boats.
