Will the real Kevin van Patten please come forward?

One can only presume that KvP's creator has been somewhat disappointed that there haven't been as many toxic posts as he may have expected.

So, I've been trying to figure out who the real Kevin van Patten is.

And I think I know.

Question to mods: Does forum etiquette preclude a guessing competition?

The original poster's last visit was about the middle of page 2 of this thread, so I surmise he's had his fill of this nonsense.

And no, it wouldn't be appropriate to speculate on his identity.

Eric Lerouge (french cruisingcat designer of Azuli, Freydis,...) considers a cat could be in danger when the average high of waves is larger than the width of the cat.
PS : I own a cat, never experimented a 40'high seas with her but felt (almost ) secure in 25 to 30' short mediterrannean waves.

I would think Eric is a bit off on his calculations. In the Queens Birthday scenario a 40ft. cat survived nearly 100ft. waves. That may not be the case for some cats, but even still that is probably 5 times the width?.....i2f

Somewhere is a video of O'VIVE doing nearly 20 knots while kids lounge about reading. One kid actually watching the helm. I can't seem to find the video. The cat is a 50ft. St. Francis...Okay here it is. Tell me this is not safe, and comfortable. Let me see a cruising mono with this abilty & stability. What is not safe about this vessel?......i2f

Thank for the video clip i2f, the screen shots I've included of your video just shows how hard it is at 20 knots...that's 20 knots. Even the young man at the helm can't crack a sweat. Some mono-hullers, well I just give up trying to decipher their hostility in anything better? That's it, we have something better ...Tongaboys

Heck, when the wind is over 20 knots and my boat get's moving, I get a rooster tail where my hull waves meet about 15ft behind the boat. Now that's sailing..

Old hull design, but she's all mine and God help me, I love her...

Pretty amazing clip that's for sure. I love the calmness of the people on the boat. It's almost as if they are tied to the dock. The shots showing the stability are fantastic. There's a small amount of spray coming from the port bow. Only a fully crewed racing mono with spinnaker up will be duplicating this speed, and doing it white knucled I would imagine? Although water would be washing the decks clean I am sure, and a wee bit of heeling!....i2f

Ok, I'll bite. Tropic Cat, what percentage of the time do you do 20 knots?

Heeling at 80* has got to be a bit uncomfortable, and looked like they were dead in the water too. I have always heard that you lose speed with excessive heeling, but WOW they were dead in the water.

tongaboys,

I was once described as having exuberant humor in my post....possibly it's true? Anyway my point of the O'vive video was to show the safety that comes with flat sailing......i2f
