Is My Lagoon 380 Catamaran Overweight??

I have a Lagoon 380 which has the added weight of 3 AC's 9,5 genset, Large watermaker, large add on freezer, 5 additional 8D AGM batteries, etc etc.
I had the vessel weighed loaded it weight's 25,000 pounds. the water line has already been raised 6 inches and is back to being level with the water.
I would like to add a fiberglass hardtop and arch which would add another 500 pounds. I am worried it is already overweight. I read somewhere the displacement is 16,000. i also read that the dry weight is 16,500 pounds.
What is the allowable weight for a 38ft cat. and is my cat overweight.
any advise???

16,500 (about 7 tonnes) sounds very light for the 380 lagoon. Pretty sure they are usually up over 10 tonnes. Try the lagoon sub forum maybe.

As I don't know the Lagoon 38 well I can't say for sure but if you raised the waterline 6" and the water is now at the top of the waterline I would say you are way overweight. Was the original waterline factory? The Lagoons are supposed to be good load carriers though.

Your bridgedeck clearance is going to suffer.... you may get a lot of slamming.

Most ctamarans under 40 ft will carry aprox one adult at 200 lbs and a 30 lb bag for every bed space, doube beds = 2 people 2 bags. We have room for 8 adults = 1600 lb and 240 lbs bags and about 20 lbs of food per person costal sailing = 160 lbs. not counting water, fuel, extra anchor and chain, dingy w/ motor. When you think about it 2000 pounds is a lot without reducing the bridge deck clearence too much. If you don't want to have guests that's lot of extra stuff you can carry.

All the Lagoons in Europe have a CE compliance plate near the stern listing the max permitted load.
I am sure someone could quote this for you. Maybe try one of the european forums like YBW.

Mate, 6" is WAY to far. Your boat is dangerously (structural problems) overloaded. I doubt a travelift gave you an accurate weigh as they are off but I would say 4" or 100mm is the MAX that is ok for a cat this size to be below the factory waterline. An inch of immersion on those hulls is probably around 800 lbs each hull so maybe you are 9,000 pounds overweight, but seriously you're totally screwed already.

The 38 is a heavy weight multi anyway, 9000 extra poundsss?? dangerous is not the right word, i guess is a disaster waiting to happen.

You're obviously concerned or you would not be here. You simply need to re-access your situation. Lets face it, your a fat cat. (sorry too tempting) I'm in favor of the one where you check out the manufacturer and get their take on this. The good news is, it sounds like your in a place where you can stay and solve this and keep your safety intact. Best of luck.

You are RIGHT we are over weight we will start getting rid of some of the excess weight we have aboard. and since we are liveaboards it's alot. Will my wife be willing to get rid of some of her clothes and shhoes???

On a 38 you don't get to have "stuff", only gear. If your transoms are dragging in the water, you are overweight. If you are not cruising, so what. Some people extend the hulls on their cats. Sounds like you need to lighten up.
