insurance without a survey

Insurance without a survey

I am looking for a insurance that will cover my boat to go from lake Champlain NY to Grenada back and forward starting my trip in September and planning to return in June 2017
No need for a survey before 2027 on my actual policy, but they don’t do the Caribbean my catamaran is a 2006 Canadian flag and she is already in the water,

And now that I am in the water and start looking for a policy that will cover my boat they all need a survey!

Anyone can suggest me a insurance that will do without a survey?

Boat US insured us without a survey. Surprised me as the boat is cold molded.

We had Progressive and they never asked for a survey, but we recently switched to BoatUS and they also did not require a survey. But I think they require you to fill out a self survey form anf produce pictures.

I would be suspicious of an insurance company insuring without a survey. How do they know you really have a boat and what shape it is in. At least with a self survey and pictures if you are trying to scam them they'll find you out.

Depends on the age, make, and use of the boat. Also how much insurance. If you find a place that will let you insure without a survey, you could retire for life.

People the Poster is talking about going on INTERNATIONAL VOYAGES

I am pretty sure that neither Progressive or BoatUS will insure vessels outside of US waters...

Also you will be traveling during Hurricane Season, which officially ends Dec 1st with most insurance companies. That will complicate matters and may cost extra.

Your Lagoon is worth a bit of money.... Having a Vessel Survey is always good for insurance companies and documents equipment added since the boat was built.

You will find there are only a handfull of insurance companies that will insure full-time cruisers...

I would recommend going to a Marine Insurance Broker and speaking with them. I have used IMIS in the past and they are very good at answering qurestions and finding the best policy for your needs.

Re: insurance without a survey

Not getting a survey might bite you at claim time. All policies have some clauses requiring the vessel to be in seaworthy shape. It is much easier to defend that with an independent third-party survey that the insurance company has already excepted.

I currently insure for full replacement value for my 72 Pearson sloop, independently valued at $36,000! and all I have ever had to produce is a two page self answered paper survey, with current photographs. The company has never suggested a surveyor look at it! It is of course a low value for a boat. I really find BoatUS and Progressive Ins. exceptional to do business with!

Foremost insures me, just enough to keep the marina happy though, 30 ft Cat, $100.00 per year.

Same as Lesterbutch, "I am with Progressive and although I had a survey at the time I got my policy they never asked for it. Couldn't complain but then they are just playing the odds.

Don't understand why anyone would try to insure a fictitious boat? Oh, scam the insurance company. Boat sank? Pictures of you and your boat please. CoastGuard report. Marina and receipts please. Any receipts please. Witnesses? This would be a felony and only a dunce would try it.

Re: insurance without a survey

There's a lot of posts here that omit one important piece of information, which is, what are the geographic limits of your policy?

Boat US is good for 48 states, and years ago they covered me for all of Mexico west coast for no increase in premium, but this year they only would cover me down to Puerto Vallarta.

This is very good question, I believe we are covered for 48 of the 50 states and have to get a rider for the other two, and we also have Bahama coverage included.
