I just arrived on CF

Greetings Earthlings, I came here following an internet search for "sailing forums". Last several hours spent perusing the multi forum, so far this looks like the place for my needs.

I am close to pulling the trigger on my next boat. Definately it will be a cat. Looking around 40-45' for F/T liveaboard and extended passages with some coastal.

I have a varied marine experience including commercial fishing and operating dive boats. Dad used to be a partner in a boat yard. Grew up in Hawaii so anything water was natural. Solo sailed when I was 8 or 9. And out beyond the reef shortly thereafter (strictly verboten by parents). Many offshore passages and untold amount of coastal cruising. Two Panama transits.

I am in California for now, my soon to be bride is living in South Florida.

This honey of a woman is FOR cruising full time. In fact, she lead me into the charge of looking to buy.

Unfortunately, her experience on the waters consists solely of passenger on cruise ships and a 3 day ride on her uncle's Hatteras 70 some years ago. I talked her into enrolling with Colgate for some classes. She was initially hesitant because she is not confident of being in social settings. She'll do fine.

It'll be fun to watch reality set in as she discovers the true nature of pasage making. She'll rise to the occasion but will be sometimes surprised. IOW, she has idealized fantasy. I'll help her shed that in a hurry but not too much.
