I had to laugh
Now I am not trying to cause any trouble between Multihullers and Monosailors, but when I saw this advert for the IP485 which looks a very nice boat, I just thought how pointless the aft bench seat was (unless you were at anchor in a warm free of heavy wind situation) and also the helmsmans seat seams a stupid design to me.
On a catamaran I could understand them but otherwise anymore than 10 degrees of heel, those two on the stern will be fighting to stay on or if a sudden gust blows there could be a BIG splash 
I would say, are IP trying to say our monohulls are as good as multihulls for the socialising, I don't think so.

Actually the boat is properly designed… you’ve just mistaken the mission… 
Note the “decorative” cowl ventilator blanketed by the combing to accompany the attractive helmspersons’ station… However, the giveaway is the apparent battery of shore-power inlets… the seats are properly positioned for the vessel’s intended clientele…

For parents, thats the perfect place to put a couple bratty kids to do their "time out"....away from everyone else. It's not such a bad idea. 
The helmsman looks like he is about to slip sideways out of his chair, unless there is a decent amount of side bolstering.
Looks like a pretty decent boat to me.

OTOH, what percentage of your time do you spend underway vs at anchor? I firmly believe a boat should be designed around the comforts for where you will be spending the majority of your time, and the safety for the rest of the time. I like the bench. Not too sure about the helmsman's seat.

That would be like me stating modern multi's have largely given up any windward ability for accommodations.

Well, being an Island Packet its seaworthiness rating is pretty much a forgone conclusion; however, it wouldn’t be the first seaworthy boat properly equipped to spend the bulk of its life as a stop on the metro-harbor martini circuit…

Hi Joli, No I genuinely wasn't trying to bait anybody, and I am sure that even you a monohull enthusiast with strong racing tendencies will agree with me that having a padded garden bench on the aft deck of a monohull and to use it while sailing is verging on the ridiculous.
