How I Spent My Afternoon...
Well, there wasn't any wind in my favor today. Right on the nose, to be precise, but I still had a lot of fun. Why???
I spent the afternoon whalloping 40+ ft monohulls (and a Catalina 38)! ha ha ha
I passed every boat on the ICW today that wasn't a powerboat. Taking the prop cages off my boat made a tremendous difference in speed. I gained an entire knot, and can now do 6.5 knots at only 2200RPM (on Yanmars that can crank up a bit higher than that).
Now, I hope not to start any big mono/multi fights, but it was nice to have a tiny little 34' cat and still pass everyone.
(luckily, there were no fast cats around today... he he)
It is now running speeds close to or at what my 45' mono did. Very VERY happy to have hauled out mid-delivery. I just saved myself 40 hours of this delivery by losing those prop guards/cages.
Had to share. Quite excited!!

Great to see you enjoying the new boat Sean. Congratulations. Keep having fun!
ps. I can't see how this could start any fights, everyone here knows you're honest, and tell it like you see it.
pps. Does you boat have folding or fixed props?

Thanks.
I have fixed props. They are the 16.5" Yanmar SD20 props that go with the 3YM30 engines.

There could be another half knot or more in a set of folding props. Expensive way to go just a little faster though.
By contrast, I spent yesterday afternoon building a bathroom in my boat. So think of me while you're out there ENJOYING yourself!!!

Yeah, I agree. I'm happy just letting these props freewheel when sailing.
I haven't got a chance to sail with these yet without the prop cages. Tried today, but it was futile. First, no wind, then wind on the nose. It IS sailing after all!
I was just put back in the water yesterday. Yesterday and today were both days where the wind was coming from my destination. Maybe an update on sailing speed in a couple days when I can get some good data. The boat only seemed to go 7 knots max with the cages on.

Think yourself lucky... I'm still "unbuilding" the current bathroom... I will be a while before I can start building the new one!

Oh man... I've paid those dues (with the Gulfstar). I feel for you with that one. You have a nice, sound boat. I'm sure the work will pay of well.

Thanks Sean,
I must just say it is great to see you back on the water again; I was sad when you had to let the Gulfstar go. And despite the teething problems, that are always to be expected, it seems like you are having fun again, which is great!
What is Mrs Sulli doing while you are gallivanting around the ICW having fun?

Thank you. It is nice to be back on the water. Yes, the teething problems weren't all that bad. Just amazing at what some people will do to boats. I guess I'm a perfectionist with that stuff.
The wife is in New England for another week. This was my project, going to get us a new boat and getting it ready for charter. BUT... next week she is joining me for the rest of the trip! Also very excited about that. It was our first time apart... ever. I really didn't care for it.

There's got to be a super double extra bonus for getting ones in the Chesapeake, right?? I'll be there pretty soon.

I know how you feel. I get sad and listless when I am apart from my Missus for a couple of nights

I can empathize.
Maggie is off to Orlando (with Daughter Laurie, & Grandson Jordan), and I’m finding I can’t sleep for longer than a couple of hours at a time (I normally only get about 5-6 hrs a nite, anyway). Something (Maggie) is missing, and I don’t like it either.
