I have always known that rigging sun shades/tarps over the deck will reduce cabin temperature, but I didn't get around to doing it until this summer. What a huge difference. I rigged silver/grey poly tarps over most of the foredeck, the entire top of the cabin, and half of the cockpit. There is about a two foot gap between the deck and the tarp, allowing air to flow through. I don't have any hard numbers, but the decrease in air temperature in the cabin is incredible!

While typical cabin fans can move the air around in a small area, a big fan will move it OUT when stuck in a windless harbor. Even working on deck there is no substitute for a big air mover when the wind fails.

When I am in Jamaica and sleepingat one of my friends house(no aircon,hell they aint even got electric)I wet a large bath towel and drap it over my shoulders or use it as a blanket! It ought to work really well if you have a fan to move the air..Or you could wet a bath robe and stick it in the freezer!!

i have a hard time understanding 82 as hot!?!? Not to be too insensitive, but of course I think anything under 60 is cold. it is probably 80 in my office. On my boat it is 100. AC is a real nice option then.

I've spent a lot of time in South America (and Afghanistan but that's a dry heat) and after a while, you get used to the tempratures. There were days I was working in mid 90s temps and when it dropped to just below 80 at night, especially around 75, it felt cold. Good air circulation is a must to help cool you down.

I grew up in the desert where it would be 110+ with 90+% humidity for months. At night it would get cold sometimes, around 85 if it was nice out but that was when the bugs would come out to play.

Lets be be clear here. When people say "you get used to it" it does NOT mean that it is good or that you like, it means you survive it. But it ALWAYS sucks!

you are going to need a bucket, that ice is going to melt and it can be recycled while still pretty cold
