Wow !!!
My mom bought him a sexton, and a celestial navigation guide.

My mom never bought me a ton of sex, but that would have sent me to heaven (with a heavenly celestial guide of course)()

Thought it was cute. Few people know how to use a sextant today... and I do not mean a sex-tent (which could be a bimini of course)...

I see it is going to take me a long time to live that one down...

And, yes, actually Scott learned how to use one when he was in nav. training. Unlike me, he actually knows the right name for it too..

Re: Holiday Gifts For Sailors

Well, the fantasy gift would be a complete set of new CDI sails from North and a new asymm spinnaker to go with them.

However, that most likely isn't in the budget. My list would include:

- boat jewelry such as a basket full of new Harken carbo blocks
- 1000' of 3/16" dyneema
- two 22 year old co-eds for crew (wait, a wife probably wouldn't get that, never mind)
- a new notebook computer loaded with all the latest navigation software
- a computer network wired into the boat
- a cold six-pack of my favorite beer
- an evening out in a 5 star restaurant with my wife for a fine meal and relaxing conversation

OH, I'm sure he'd love it!!! but you better hide that link if 2hulls comes around here... I'm sure that will swiftly go to his "destroying quiet anchorages" list..

Re: Holiday Gifts For Sailors

Well, at the risk of 'pushing our own barrow', we offer a whole website chock full of ideas that range from practical to frivolous (with prices that range from stocking-stuffers to serious loot) and ALL tested and proven by us as suited for life on a vessel...

Check us out, but remember there's not a lot of shipping time left before it's wrap+present time!!

Wishing everyone good health and much happiness...and, if you're on the water, fair winds and following seas...for the holiday season..

You know, about the binoculars, one can get by with el cheapos, but honestly, better ones are way better. I like our image stabilized Canons, but I love our light gathering Fujinons.

Few of us who enjoy quiet anchorages would welcome any kind of noisy toys, no matter how cool the idea of them is. Just because something can be done, doesn't mean it should be done.

Merry & Happy,
Ann

Thanks Andrew! So those flameless candles to you were a gift eh?

The whole ENJOY Flameless Candle range keeps improving in both variety and features. Cf.
ENJOY Flameless Candles & More, Floating Impressions . Made with paraffin wax and incredibly realistic LED's, they're completely safe and leave no drips or smoke. They're also excellent for night watch-keeping! So they're both practical and perfect for adding a bit of beauty to life on a vessel...and it's no surprise they're amoung our best sellers. We're about to do our holiday decorating 'thing' with them on CatNirvana, including a series of outside Votives across the flybridge which look fantastic...and then we chuckle as others on anchor nearby puzzle how we keep them 'burning' in the breeze.

All the best to you and yours for holiday season.
