i am soooo glad i am in a marina today---watching this is a real eye opener.....i am careful when sailing and driving my boat--i dont come near anyone else with my huge pig sticking sprit---and when dinks drive by , i ask them to please dont go under, as it could be hazardous to their health, especially in heavy chop......

You have a lot more faith in the Mexican judicial system than I do. If your friend is in a small boat without much money, and was hit by a guy in a large boat with lots of money, I think he is going to be lucky if he gets any compensation, especially if the guy has any local connections.

he is doing port capt last, a she is adverse to having self above radar--- he is getting pix, and has a witness with him-- gringo vs gringo usually goes prison bound both for a time of about a month, then mebbe gets a chance to be sorted out.....is why i think my trip may be postponed for a few days to 2 weeks.we have to see what is gonna be happening.....and the mess inside his cockpit--and his wounds as a result of the collision...the witness is witness to the lights blazing all night from the victims boat--i can see well from a mile away--and as to what the offender says and does--mebbe they can get on video--my camera has that feature.....

Not true. I did just that in my old Seabird Yawl. Took out the taffrail and pushpit of a beautifull Lapworth sloop. You don't even have to be drunk, all it takes is a little determination and a fool who doesn't know his turning radius under power.

Zeehag, this is more than merely a leap in logic, it may be the most ridiculous attack on catamarans yet! If he had been struck at speed by a drunk in a steel-hulled monohull and his boat was split in two, would anyone criticize monohulls for having a single, strong, pointed end that could only be intended to wreck other boats! If it makes you feel any better, perhaps we can all agree that based upon size, construction, weight and desisgn, some boats are capable of causing more damage than other boats when they are being operated by drunks and incompetents.

Stiletto cats have a wire like that. The bridle for the chute and reacher slide back and forth on it. I have seen it on a few one-offs and home-builts as well.

Yeah, cats have amas and akas, we just don't find the terminology as useful as it is for trimarans.

thankyou-- if you had been the man who was injured as the large cat drove over his boat to the coach house and demolished your boat, as you slept with anchor lights blazing, you would not think along these lines, would you?
or, mebbe you are the one who damaged the boat in the ancorage.....

if you had read the initial posting, you would know it is only one idjit we seek..... and hopefully, that individual is being spoken with now. the driver of the cat, in this country, with the proof we have to present, has a lot to lose.

this question i asked did give me the answers i need to know as regards the construction of the bows of a catamaran. thankyou.

Asking if someone would have deliberately strung wire between his bows for the express intent of doing damage to other boats while operating his boat drunk - sounds like a reasonable question?
