Just prior to Hammo is the Airlie Beach Race week. It has just finished.
Cruising Division Entrants:
12.5 Metre Montebello
10.8 Metre Seawind
13.1 Metre Catana
12 Metre Open 40
12 Metre Open 40
7.3 Metre F24 Tri
12 Metre FP
Lavezzi
In the cruising division - in across the line terms (over the course of the week there was more wind rather than less)
race 1 - Catana 431, Montebello 12.5, Farrier F24, Seawind 1000, Nautitech Open 40, Nautitch Open 40, FP
Lavezzi
Race 2 - Farrier F24, Catana 431, Montebello 12.5, Seawind 1000, Nautitech Open 40, Nautitch Open 40, FP Lavezzi
Race 3 - Montebello, Seawind, Open 40, Lavezzi, F24, Open 40, Catana DNF
Race 4 - Catana, Seawind, Montebello, Open 40, Open 40, Lavezzi, F24 RET
Race 5 - Catana, Montebello, Open 40, Open 40, Lavezzi, F24 DNC, Seawind DNF
And on handicap the overall results are:
Montebello, Catana, Seawind, Open 40, F24, Open 40, Lavezzi.
What does that say - well quite a bit, leaving aside the F24 what we see is that the montebello catana and seawind were group A and the Open 40 and lavezzi were group B. I would expect the Catana 431 to do well, the **1 series catanas were in an era when Catana still gave a crap about performance and it was the only cat with
dagger boards.
The open 40s are a disappointment.
But lets hold off till after next week when many of the same boats will be racing along with a much bigger field of about 28 boats in total.
