I think they are going to have to be real careful about who they sell this boat to, all it would take is a couple of people that shouldn't be in one, to ruin the reputation.

Probably not many, it is actually being marketed as a "Multipurpose COASTAL Racer Cruiser"...

Perhaps the folks at Gunboat's Hype Marketing Department learned a bit of a lesson after branding the 55 as a voyaging boat suitable for "high latitudes"?

Well done to Gunboat for taking high performance development of the last Americas cup and bringing it to the "masses".
This type of engineering trickle down, reminds me of what formula 1and other high teck car racing series .for example rearview mirrors(F1) full time all wheel Drive (WRC) ,and double clutch transmissions Le mans 24 hours.
I not saying that these series invented those items but they developed them to the point that we take them for granted.
When I was a boy in paleolithic times there was a trimaran called Williwa a plywood homebuilt foiling cruiser . Cool video on u tube just google williwa trimaran

The G4 is a game changer the proof is the alarming rate of shrinking yacht-penises at yc’s and forums.

For me it’s about the technology involved and the advancement we are making in sailing.

Your average cruiser or “sailing enthusiast” Is not going to jump on this boat and make it foil like a ac racer. Not only is this a high tech boat it requires skilled crew to operate it.

I heard the 700k number thrown around early on. I would bet it’s going to come in about double that.

unfortunately i think the maintenance with that kind of use would cost you more than you would make. i highly doubt it could handle that kind of constant punishment with out a huge amount of costly maintenance.

Not jealous, but I do think a couple of incidents like the one with Rainmaker wouldn't go over well with sales, and a boat with this kind of performance in a novices hands, wouldn't bode well. Me for instance, I would be dangerous with such a boat, it's WAY out of my league.
Think of how much you hear that Cats like Lagoons flip over, and what does it take to fly a hull on a Lagoon? Can it even be done? yet you hear that nonsense all the time, not all of it in jest

I think the we can outrun storms, push this button to depower and cruise faster marketing messages have been unceremoniously stomped on.

Its a bit like saying a lotus elise is quick and great for family camping trips.

Makes me think of a swiss army knife. It does everything but nothing that well. Cruising aint racing.

I understand you feel the need to bash gunboat any chance you get you have made that obvious.

This is not a lagoon catamaran, this is a high performance cutting edge pucker up and hold on! If that’s not what you are looking for then PLEASE go buy a Lagoon.

Is this boat dangerous to novice sailors YES so is a Lamborghini in your average person’s hands.

I have a high performance car. There is a level of care and concentration and skill required to operate it, far more than is needed for a Toyota or Honda. It’s so low to the ground a steep driveway is out of the question and please stop with the huge speed bumps your killing me! Maintenance is x10 what a Honda would be. These are all things that owners of any performance car, boat, plane experience give and take for the performance.

I don’t live in a Nanny state I don’t need someone to tell me that it’s dangerous and to protect me from myself. I know my skills and limits and like you I would probably be dangerous on the tiller yet I don’t feel the need to belittle something I don’t have the skill or the money for.
