Look again, at the helm station.

Still I don't believe a fool trying to disconnect a hacht frame probably not worth a dime and with a flooded hull and leave in place a expensive electric lewmar winche ..... my 2 cents.

No, I simply asked for a clarification. (I'm pretty sure you knew that, but you really can't help yourself from constantly sniping at people, can you?)

You suggested the boat wasn't at sea when it was stripped. I was wondering who else had the opportunity to strip it ashore?

Re: GUNBOAT Dismasting

The hatches appear to be flush hatches, if the glass (Perspex) was broken out, any remaining frame might be quite difficult to see in the photo's.

Really? I count 3 (might be 2 with the skewed angle of the pics)

It seems it has two. I was just asking. Even two seems oddly few to me and all those lines lead there should add a lot of friction specially the ones that come from the back of the boat (genoa, Geenaker, code sails)

Good grief! Two winches, twelve lines??? two kinda small bins for the tails?? And that includes t he main sheet and the genoa sheets??

In a vessel that may urgently require dumping the sheets to avoid the dread capsize, that looks very ungainly to me, with manifold opportunities for snarls and hockles and other things that impede rapid easing of a loaded line.

Have I missed something?

Jim

And they don't have no winch on the mast either (they reef with those winches) and they don't wave also no wich dedicated to the main on the back of the boat. Well not having a traveller helps with that but I always heard that a big traveller was more important in a cat than in a mono, as a way to depower the main on gusts.

The Rapier 550, a much less expensive boat follows the same centralization near an inside station but it has three winches inside and two outside for a big traveller?. 5 winches versus 2 winches.

Re: GUNBOAT Dismasting

Was intended as a capable world cruiser for a single couple, two people only need two winches.

I don't follow your logic. I sail mostly solo and I have 6 winches. If I had only two I would have to be continuing changing lines on the winches for any adjustment I would be making on the sails.

Re: GUNBOAT Dismasting

Back to the topic. What do you think should be done in that situation? They should know that they can't start the engines with all the rigging in the water. I guess they should just wait for better conditions, pumping any water from the hulls, if any.
Or someone brave enough (with safety harness on) should come outside and try to cut/disconnect any remaining rigging. Once everything disconnected, watch it to go away (better - in the daytime), start the engines and go home. It wasn't mayday situation at all. Am I right?

Honestly i dont see any problem with the boat apart from a lame crew and a faulty rig, include the winches station,, that rig to sporty for my taste ,,, the hulls are wonderful and they probe something ,, they float after who know how many lows and gales,,
