Grenada Opinions and Help

Where to hide out the hurricanes.

Bought the boat in Trinidad. Did the Chamarangas thing. Didn't particularly enjoy that one. Man those trinidadian ants are hard to kill.

This year did the east coast thing. Got rather chilly near the end and spent quite a bit of time and $$$ on the passages. Liked Bermuda but sure didn't like the fuel prices. Do like those passages though.

Thinking of Grenada this year. St Georges harbor. Get a slip for the season and be able to get some use out of the boat. Anyone familiar?

Is there a yard that has a hurricane emergency reservation system. For a fee they will haul you. If no storms your out the reservation fee.

Any comments?

Regards,

Mike

St Georges Harbor is OK but I hope you have air-conditioning because it is WAY hot in the summer time. I'm from Florida and I know hot. That harbor has very little in the way of a breeze if any. Have you looked into spending the season in Bonair? Always a breeze and a DELIGHTFUL island a fast downwind sail from Grenada or a broad reach from the Virgin Islands. Also there used to be a GREAT hurricane hole/anchorage just out of Marin, Martinique.

Why not further west of Chag Bay? Isla Margarita?

Wherever you decide to anchor, I think the important thing is to be below 12N (or maybe 11d30mN).

There are 5 direct flights out of Chicago every day. The cost is between $250 - $300 per round trip. Emergency Haul out. If the weather is unsettled you can sail the whole leeward shore. There's above a 50% chance I'll be there next season.

What airlines and timeframe are those flights at? I just did an Expedia search and all I found was around $900. I like your costs better

Try midweek in January. I've got $316 with American non-stop. I did have to search harder then normal but can say that it's been usual for prices to be below $300 per trip.

Wow, I just can't get that rate, with Expedia, Travelocity or AA itself.

Here is the AA rate sheet, once all the taxes and fees are in. BTW, this started out as a $401 GND-ORD flight. Were you looking at a one-way or a return flight?

What's a GND-ORD flight? I'm doing ORD to SJU. They are even cheaper in February. I'm searching using Expedia with non-stop checked. Pretty odd.

Oh, I see. The point of my post was to suggest Puerto Rico not Grenada. The OP lives in Chicago so my suggestion was different then he had originally asked. I also fly out of ORD to SXM and it's getting pretty old. I have to leave my home at 2:00am in order to arrive at the boat at 4:00pm. That's a long trip and to make it once per month starts to drag on you.
