Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Seriously ... a wind generator on top of the mast - is this all about PR or "ingenious" engineering ?

Hallo Zonker we have used wind generators on top of the masts since 2006 and the location works perfect , minimal noise or vibration and maximum output , today with 28 knots of wind a output of 400 watt per hour , even sailing down wind still gives output
Besides the wind generator we also use 8 x 300 watt solar panels on the 605 to supplement the regenerating system while sailing
Greetings

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

we went sailing today and tried out all systems , reefed, stormsail, autopilot calibration, anchoring and we had up to 19 knots of wind.
best speed for the day was 14.8 with 18 knots of wind 90 degrees genoa and main and 1 meter waves with 14.0 knots of wind 12.9 knots same course. not as good as the polar but with the wave resistance satisfactory

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Wow, that sounds spectacular; faster than I ever went with any sailboat (by far). Looking at the polars the gennaker could have made the boat go even faster; can you use a gennaker in these winds? I would be perfectly happy with the speeds obtained and not take that risk myself.

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Nice looking but I can't help but wonder why anyone would order a boat with two sinks in the master. To me it is unbelieveable.

I can tell the "Hers" sink is on the left as it has a mirror so the one on the right can be left dirty........or pee'd in if needed.

Maybe in case one breaks?

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Hi Gideon,

What are the 6 square covers for? (last picture between swing keels and propeller).

@ Therapy: I'm sure you wouldn't get away with 'not cleaning yours' (that is if you allow SWMBO on your boat).

Must say I really like the 'less is more' look of the interior.

Eric

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Hallo Eric

the covers are actual water outlets for the airconditioning, water makers grey water bilges and bilge pumps, they are with water deflectors to prevent any water entering.
There was plenty of space in the master bathroom since this has a separate toilet so the owner opted to have double basins so his wife would not feel left out !!!
Tonight we are leaving for Richards bay for the first longer sail ( 120 NM )
I will let you know how it went

Greetings

Jeff - for what that boat costs, I'm surprised they aren't gold plated???

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

While I would personally want more counter space than an extra sink, that is about the only thing I have noticed that I would do differently. I really like the wind generator at the top of the mast idea. It looks like a great boat.

(I still would worry about those glasses sliding around while underway however)

Re: GreenCat 605 First Pictures

Hmm .. wonder who is gonna order such a baby.

Not as fast as a racer and not comfy enough like a Nautitech or Lagoon. If you spend millions then you want some sexyness - for now there is no, just some tech stuff without MTBF numbers. Further who cares if a boat is "green" or not (you better dont have a boat at all - that would be much greener) and second I doubt that such a large battery bank is "green" !
