Yes, I know. Mrs. Spammy (The Admiral) loves cats. We've only owned monohulls so far. She dreams of the spacious, open bridgedeck with a view, and the lack of heeling. I still recall a nice gust with the expected degree of heel, but accompanied by the sound of shattering glass from below, followed by some choice words in a familiar female voice from the galley!
I have also secretly lusted after catamarans,even going so far as to speak with a well-known broker. But I will be picky, and they are not cheap. I briefly thought about selling my monohull, even going as far as to list it here on cruisersforum, but I have invested quite a lot in it, and it's a 20-year-old boat, making financing it less attractive to vendors. It has had incredibly light use, having spent 19 of its 20 years on fresh water. It would make a great boat for the right person. In the meantime, I guess I'll bide my time, and continue to fix up the old girl (she's already in great shape),and enjoy her as I have over the last few years (the boat, not the wife, silly!), and maybe a good selling opportunity will present itself. Then we'll look at those cats (frightfully expensive...).
So,we'll follow you as monohull sailors secretly liking cats!

After many years of saving and sacrificing, I finally got the boat of my dreams, a 37' Pacific Seacraft. It was a great boat and we cruised on it for 10 years. I loved it but the Admiral put up with it. When the ships cat moved aboard and got more storage space than the Admiral, she started feeling cramped. When we toured some cats at the Annapolis Boat show, she commented that if I expected her to continue cruising she needed something bigger and a cat would be just fine.

I liked the living space in the cats, but I was a die hard mono guy and didn't want to be seen in a "double wide" that would flip over and kill us both. To make the Admiral happy I did some research on cats and we sailed with some friends on a Lagoon 37. I hated to admit it, but I sort of liked it. It really boiled down to two options. Did I want to continue cruising on a cat or trade the lifestyle for a "Mortgage 30." I chose the cat option and we have cruised on it for the last 3 years.

Now I wished we changed to a cat sooner. It's roomier, faster, more stable and much more comfortable under sail. The fatigue factor on long passages is much lower because we don't expend much energy holding on to things and going from one handhold to the next to use the head. When I put my coffee mug down, it stays there. Best of all, the Admiral loves cruising again and my stock is at an all time high. (too bad my 201K is in the dumper).

Bottom line: I have been to the dark side...AND I LIKED IT!

I have sailed a PS37 from Atlantic City to Boston. Great boat, but a little tight for its length. I'll bet your cat likes a multi too...

The ships cat, Captain Morgan, loves Cat Tales. He got seasick a few times on the mono, but he still patrols his territory on the catamaran when offshore.

I'm in the cat market too. Think I'm getting closer. I had to pay my dues though. Met this cute little blonde for a drink one night. She found out I was going to the multi-side. I never saw a woman turn into Lucifer before. After she got done telling me she would never go to sea without "tons and tons" of lead in her boat she started telling me how stupid I was.. I mean she was actuallly spitting mad!!! I was trying not to laugh at her logic. I'm the stupid one, but she only felt secure with lead in her boat pulling her down. Needless to say that was the last time I ever saw her. Maybe it was a blonde thing

NO, its not too late, you can be SAVED from such an unnatural life. Break out the old bicycle with training wheels, and lower one side so its always leaning. Do ten miles a day and you will come to love it again, after the sores heal. The you can raise both training wheels and practice staying on the bike when you turn....
